    • PURPOSE:To manufacture an electrode material for electric discharge machining excellent in workability and having superior consumption characteristics, by mixing powdered W and powdered Ca, by subjecting the resulting powder mixture to compacting and sintering, and by infiltrating Cu or Ag into the obtained sintered compact so as to form a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:The powdered W and the powdered Ca are mixed in a prescribed ratio, and the powder mixture is compacted and sintered with proper addition of a binder. It is preferable that the average grain size of above- mentioned powdered W is 2-10mum and that sintering is carried out at about 1,000-1,200 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. Then Cu and/or Ag is infiltrated into a skeleton consisting of W and Ca obtained by the above-mentioned sintering at about 1,100-1,300 deg.C, so that electrode material for electric discharge machining having a composition consisting of 0.3-3.0wt% Ca, 20-40wt% of Cu and/or Ag, and the balance W can be obtained. The above electrode material is reduced in bores, excellent in workability such as grindability, polishability, etc., and further reduced in electrode consumption in the working of super hard materials, so that long-lived electrodes can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE: To produce a sintered type contact point material having a uniform contact point characteristic by mixing a part of the main componet material powder of roughly the same amt. as the amt. of auxiliary component material powder with the auxiliary powder then mixing the remaining main component material powder therewith.

The content of the auxiliary component material in the product, i.e., contact point material, is set at ≤3wt%, and part of the main component material of roughly the same amt. as the amt. of the auxiliary component material is first mixed with the auxiliary component material to prepare a primary powder mixture; further, the remaining main component material is mixed therewith.     • PURPOSE:To obtain good low shredding current characteristic and high frequency wave arc extinction characteristic by optimizing the content af Ag and Cu, and their ratio and existing condition, and setting the grain size of arc-resistant component fine. CONSTITUTION:For the inclusion of high conductive components, the total of Ag and Cu (Ag+Cu) is set at 20-65wt.%, the ratio of Ag included in the total of Ag and Cu [Ag/(Ag+Cu)] is set at 40-80wt.%, and the inclusion of arc-resistant component is set at 30-80wt.%. The organization of contact material consists of matrix of the high conductive components, a discontinuous layer of a thickness or width of less than 5mum, and discontinuous grains of less than 3mum of the arc-resistant components, and the discontinuous layer of the high conductive components is scattered finely and uniformly in the matrix at an interval of less than 5mum. If dielectric breakdown occurs at the time of a fine gap between electrode, a load current of a commercial frequency is easy to rise, and production of an excessive surge voltage is restricted, thereby low shredding current characteristics and high frequency arc extinction characteristic can be improved.
