    • The present invention is directed to an organic polyurethane composition having a solids content of about 10 to 100 weight percent which comprises(1) isocyanate-terminated prepolymers which are prepared by reacting reaction products of the phosgenation of aniline-formaldehyde condensates containing specific ratios of isomers and homologues with polyether polyols containing at least two hydroxyl groups and at least one tertiary nitrogen atom and, optionally, an additional polyol which does not contain a tertiary nitrogen atom and optionally,(2) a monoisocyanate comprising a member selected from para-toluenesulfonyl isocyanate and the reaction product of 2,4- or 2,6-toluene diisocyanate or mixtures thereof with specific monoalcohols.The present invention is also directed to the coatings produced from the polyurethane compositions, optionally containing pigments.

    • The present invention relates to a two-component, aqueous polyurethane coating composition which may be cured at ambient temperature and which containsI) a first component based on an aqueously dispersed polyurethane wherein the polyurethane hasa) an average hydroxy functionality of at least 1.8b) a total content of urethane and urea groups, calculated as --NH--C--O--, of 9 to 20% by weight, based on the weight of the polyurethane, andc) sufficient chemically incorporated anionic groups andd) ethylene oxide units incorporated within terminal and/or lateral polyether chainsto maintain the polyurethane stably dispersed in water, andII) a second component based on a water dispersible polyisocyanate wherein the polyisocyanate hasa) an isocyanate content of 2 to 30% by weight, based on the weight of the polyisocyanate,b) an average functionality of at least 1.8 andc) sufficient chemically incorporated anionic groups andd) ethylene oxide units incorporated within terminal and/or lateral polyether chainsto maintain the polyisocyanate stably dispersed in water, and components I and II are present in an amount sufficient to provide an equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups to hydroxyl groups of 0.8:1 to 6:1.The present invention is also directed to the coatings prepared from these coating compositions.

    • The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersions with improved hydrolytic stability by(a) forming an aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersion, optionally by chain extending an aqueously dispersed isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, containing carboxylic acid groups neutralized with volatile organic bases,(b) converting the volatile, organic base-neutralized carboxylic acid groups to nonvolatile cation-neutralized carboxylate groups by adding alkali metal salts of organic or inorganic acids having a pKa greater than 0 to the aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersion of (a) in an amount sufficient to displace at least a portion of the volatile organic bases and, optionally,(c) removing the volatile organic bases by distillation, optionally under reduced pressure.The present invention is also directed to the products produced by this process.
