    • A power steering system for vehicles includes a four-way valve slidable in response to applied steering torque for selectively connecting a pair of hydraulic oil chambers of a servo cylinder to a hydraulic pressure source and an oil reservoir. A pair of hydraulic rection chambers are disposed one on each side of the four-way valve and each contain a pair of plungers and a spring interposed therebetween. The plungers are held by and between a pair of diametrical pins supported on the valve and spaced axially from each other. When the reaction chambers are pressurized by an increased speed of the vehicle or a change in resistance from the road surface, the plungers are urged against the pins on the valve to prevent the latter from being slid axially, thereby allowing the driver of the vehicle to feel a suitable resistance to turning of the steering wheel without being assisted by auxiliary power from the servo cylinder.

    • A creep-inhibiting device for use in an automotive vehicle equipped with a transmission mechanism coupled in series to a fluid coupling and having a frictionally engaging element. Control means interposed between the frictionally engaging element and an operating fluid source controls the power transmission capacity of the frictionally engaging element within a range from substantially zero to a predetermined value in dependence on a signal fluid pressure representative of engine load, to inhibit creeping of the vehicle when the vehicle engine is in a no-load state. The control means has a valve body selectively connecting and disconnecting an input fluid line to and from an output fluid line. A first pressure chamber defined by a first end face of the valve body is supplied with an operating fluid pressure in the output fluid line, while a second pressure chamber defined by a second end face of the valve body is supplied with the signal fluid pressure. A third fluid line having a restriction always connects the input and output fluid lines with each other, and a resilient member urges the valve body in a direction of connecting the input fluid line to the output fluid line. The operating fluid pressure in the output fluid line is allowed to escape through a drain line to a lower pressure zone by an amount corresponding to an amount by which the valve body is biased in a direction of disconnecting the input fluid line from the output fluid line.

    • A hydraulic shift transmission for a vehicle including a hydraulic torque converter for transmitting the engine torque to a road wheel driving system. The hydraulic shift transmission comprises a first speed gear train interposed between the hydraulic torque converter and the road wheel driving system, a hydraulic clutch installed in the first speed gear train, a hydraulic control system for supplying a hydraulic pressure through an oil supply line to the clutch, a relief valve mechanism, provided for the supply line, for releasing the hydraulic pressure while the vehicle speed is lower than preset reference value with the engine idling, an oil return port open relative to the supply line and releasing the hydraulic pressure while opened, a piston member for, when slided in either axial direction thereof, closing the return port, a resilient member normally biassing the piston member in the axial direction, and a hydraulic circuit for, at least either when the vehicle speed becomes higher than the preset reference value or the engine is accelerated, gradually urging the piston member in the axial direction.

    • A control mechanism for a transmission of a vehicle having an internal combustion engine. The transmission includes a torque convertor, a coupling member, a gear-train, and an operation lever having a neutral position and at least three other positions. The torque convertor, the gear-train, and the coupling member are interposed in a system line for transmitting output torque of the engine to a driving wheel of the vehicle. The operation lever is arranged to operate the coupling member to connect the torque convertor to the gear-train by being moved from the neutral position to one of the other positions. The control mechanism includes a coupling-preventing mechanism operatively associated with the coupling member for preventing coupling when a throttle valve of the engine is in an idling position and the operation lever is moved from the neutral position to one of the other positions. The control mechanism also includes a change-over mechanism associated with the coupling-preventing mechanism for selectively changing-over the coupling-preventing mechanism from an operative state preventing coupling to a rest state permitting coupling whereupon the coupling member connects the torque convertor to the gear-train even though the throttle valve is in an idling position.
