    • A valve timing control device includes a purge path communicating between a hydraulic chamber allowing the entry of hydraulic pressure on starting an engine and a backward pressurized section in an accommodation hole. When the hydraulic chamber allowing the entry of hydraulic pressure on starting the engine is the retardation side hydraulic chamber, a hydraulic pressure derived from an oil pump is supplied to the retardation side hydraulic chamber on starting the engine. On the way, air-mixed oil is discharged to outside of the device by way of a purge path, a backward pressurized section in the accommodation hole and the discharge hole. When the air is discharged, a residual pressure is produced in the backward pressurized section due to oil supplied thereto. The residual pressure results in the increase of an unlocking hydraulic pressure to prevent a locking member from being unlocked. When the application of a retardation side hydraulic pressure is switched to that of an advance side hydraulic pressure, the pressure presses a front end of a locking member against only a biasing force of a biasing means to unlock a locking relation. The valve timing control device allows the use of any kinds of locking pins, and prevents the occurrence of beat noise (abnormal noise) when air-mixed oil unlocks a locking relation on starting the engine.

    • A valve timing control device has a lock pin for controlling the rotation between first and second rotors. A purge valve is arranged at the lock pin, the purge valve discharging air-mixing oil into a discharge hole in a release operation. On application of first pressure of release hydraulic pressure, a part of the first pressure is discharged through the purge valve, a backward pressure chamber and the discharge hole to the outside the device. Therefore, the lock pin is slid to reduce applied pressure, and it can delay a release operation to prevent the occurrence of beat noise on starting an engine.

    • A seal member of a seal unit of a valve timing adjusting device has foot portions and protrusive guides protruding from a seal reverse plane along internal surfaces of the foot portions. A plate spring of the seal unit has foot portions and fork portions arranged on top ends of the foot portions. A slit is formed in each fork portion to allow the insertion of the protrusive guide when the plate spring is fitted to the seal member. The positional relationship between the slit and the protrusive guide is determined on condition that the plate spring fitted to the seal member does not detach from the seal member and the plate spring does not collide with the protrusive guide when the plate spring is bent to arrange the seal unit in the valve timing adjusting device. When the plate spring is fitted to the seal member, the slits of the fork portions are positioned just above the protrusive guides, and the plate spring is dropped according to the gravitational force. Thereafter, stopper portions are formed by deforming top end portions of the protrusive guides according to ultrasonic wave machining method, and the plate spring is prevented from detaching from the seal member.

    • A valve timing regulation device for regulating the timing of the opening and closing of the valves in an internal combustion engine, includes: a rotor urging member 40, 41 for urging the rotor 18 toward a predetermined lock position with respect to the housing 16; and holder members 38, 39 which support both ends of the rotor urging member 40, 41 on the wall surfaces of the shoe 22 of the housing 16 and the vane 23 of the rotor 18. Such an arrangement allows assembly of the rotor urging member 40, 41 into an advancing hydraulic chamber 24 formed between the shoe 22 and the vane 23. Thus, it is not required to provide an urging member storage chamber for assembling the rotor urging member 40, 41 as a separate component, and therefore it is possible to downsize the valve timing regulation device. Furthermore, it is possible to suppress wear on both ends of the rotor urging member 40, 41 due to friction with the shoe 22 and the vane 23 by the holder members 38, 39.

    • A valve timing control device includes a first rotor, a second rotor, a fitting hole, a tier control member, an accommodation hole, a first release hydraulic pressure chamber and a second release hydraulic pressure chamber. The first rotor rotates in synchronization with a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine and has a plurality of shoes, which are projected inwardly to define a plurality of hydraulic pressure chambers. The second rotor is fixed at an end of a camshaft of the internal combustion engine and has a plurality of vanes which partition the plural hydraulic pressure chambers of the first rotor into an advance side hydraulic pressure chamber and a retardation side hydraulic pressure chamber. The fitting hole is disposed at any one of the first rotor or the second rotor. The tier control member fits in the fitting hole to control a relative rotation of the first and second rotors and having a front minor diameter section and a rear major diameter section. The accommodation hole disposed at the other to accommodate the tier control member. The biasing member biases the tier control member in a direction of fitting the tier control member in the fitting hole. The first release hydraulic pressure chamber is defined between the front minor diameter section of the tier control member and the fitting hole. The second release hydraulic pressure chamber is defined between an end face of the rear major diameter section of the tier control member in an axial direction of the device and the accommodation hole. At least one of the advance and retardation side hydraulic pressure chambers communicates with both the first and second release hydraulic pressure chambers.
