    • When load balancing (LB) for SIP message communication is performed across multiple SIP servers, the number of messages that must be processed by an LB server is reduced. The SIP LB server includes an LB management means which, if the previous hop source of a received request message is a terminal in the local domain, determines which SIP server to serve the terminal, and a redirect function which notifies the message source terminal in the local domain of the address of the serving SIP server. The SIP LB server further includes an LB management table which, if the previous hop source of a received request message is other than a terminal in the local domain, is searched to find a SIP server serving communication with a destination terminal in the local domain, and a stateless forwarding function which statelessly forwards the received request message to the resolved SIP server address.

    • Erroneous detection of a failure in spite of the absence of failure on the route on account of a communication delay is to be prevented. A node device detects a failure on the route to a remote node device is detected by a failure to receive a packet from the remote node device after the elapse of a determined detection time. The node device sets “remote system transmission interval×detection multiplier” to be a first detecting time on the basis of a packet transmission interval determined by negotiation with the remote node device. It also sets the sum of “remote system actual transmission interval ×detection multiplier” and “tolerable delay time” to be a second detecting time. The first detecting time and the second detecting time are compared, and what is longer is determined as the detecting time to be applied to actual operation.

    • A session relay apparatus for preventing the packet relay delay by detecting the start and end of the policy settable peer-to-peer communication is disclosed.
