Then, the operation of each piston inside the actuator 1 is controlled by the instruction of a computer which selects the most suitable rigidity of a structure on the basis of the predominant period of an earthquake motion detected by an earthquake sensor. Consequently, with this device, it is possible to vary the rigidity of the structure most suitably.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a unit that facilitates the design of a vibration damping structure by providing a male block having a bar-like inserting portion and a female block having a guide hole and installing in the guide hole a stopper that travels between two positions, one of which prevents the inserting portion from entering a guide path within the guide hole and the other of which permits the inserting portion to enter the guide path. CONSTITUTION:A male block 2 having a bar-like inserting portion 4 is installed on a structure component 20, and a female block 3 having a guide hole 5 is installed on another structure component 20. The guide hole 5 is provided internally with a stopper 6 which travels, according to a command from a control mechanism, between a position which prevents the inserting portion 4 from entering a guide path within the guide hole 5, and a position which allows the inserting portion 4 to enter the guide path. This permits the unitization of a variable rigidity mechanism, thereby facilitating the design of a vibration damping structure as well as its maintenance and replacement.

SOLUTION: The steel elasto-plastic damper has a structure wherein the plastic deformation part of the steel elastoplastic damper 1 is covered with a film of paint that is highly stretchable and durable or paint is applied to the plastic deformation part. In this structure, the surface of the steel damper 1 undergoes primary processing which serves as rust-proofing adherent to final coating in order to ensure accuracy at finishing because of its inability of undergoing coating under the state of completely rustless with shot blasting or the like applied, and after that final coating is applied with paint having property of following after deformation.
