    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quantitatively estimating life until the occurrence of a stress corrosion crack (SCC) in a metallic material to constitute a structure used under corrosive environment.SOLUTION: A metallic material exhibits susceptibility to the occurrence of SCC at a configured lower limit px of the thickness of a surface oxide film. The time tx for the thickness p of the surface oxide film to reach the lower limit px is obtained from the time dependency of the surface oxide film shown as a solid line in a drawing. Subsequently, an event as a fracture factor of the surface oxide film is assumed. In the case that the event occurs after the reaching time tx, the occurrence of SCC is possible due to the corrosion progress in a base material resulting from the breaking of the oxide film. An SCC progress due to the corrosion of base material is shown as a dash line in a drawing. The possibility whether the occurrence of SCC is present or not is then determined. When the resulting determination is that the possibility of the occurrence of SCC is present, the event occurrence time is estimated as life L until the occurrence of SCC.
