SOLUTION: At the time of operating a silver operation switch 122 arranged at an entrance of an escalator and for lowering the speed of the escalator to 1/2-3/4 when the escalator is not crowded, in order to know whether the escalator is crowded or not, a load detecting unit 15 discriminates whether the motor output is larger or smaller than 50%, and performs the silver operation at the only time when the escalator is not crowded. When the escalator is not crowded, after an announce is given by a speaker 132, a contractor 92 is opened and a first switching means 8 is closed so as to switch a driving motor 5 from the direct power feeding from a three-phase alternating current power source 6 to the power feeding from a power converting unit 7 so as to control an inverter 73, and speed of the escalator is gradually lowered so as to transfer the operation to the silver operation (at a middle speed).

SOLUTION: It is assumed that the passenger of an elevator number B uses the communication equipment slave unit 2b inside the cage and tries to communicate with a communication equipment master unit 1 installed in a machine chamber or a monitoring board. At the time, the call button of a master unit is pressed by the passenger. By pressing the call button, the identification code is outputted from the output device of the identification code to the communication equipment master unit 1. Signals are transmitted to the communication equipment master unit 1 by a transmission line 3 and inputted to the identification device 5 of the identification code. The identification device 5 receives the identification code and outputs the signals for selecting the communication line of the number B machine to the changeover device 6 of the communication line 3. The changeover device 6 of the communication line 3 connects the communication line of the number B machine to the receiver of the communication equipment master unit 1 corresponding to the signals from the identification device 5.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve workability of maintenance inspection by connecting a portable terminal equipment for maintenance work to a connector provided at an elevator hall, and taking maintenance information, stored in a control panel, into the portable terminal equipment for maintenance work through an optical transmission cable. SOLUTION: An optical transmission cable 8 for connecting a control panel 3 to a hall 10 is laid, and the hall side is provided with a connector 1 for connecting a portable terminal equipment 9 for maintenance work, and a converting circuit for converting an electric signal, outputted from the portable terminal equipment 9 for maintenance work, into an optical signal. The portable terminal equipment 9 for maintenance work is connected to the connector 1 so as to communicate between the portable terminal equipment 9 for maintenance work and a microcomputer built in the control panel. At the time of maintenance inspection, a key of the portable terminal equipment 9 for maintenance work is operated, and a car 5 is moved and stopped in a requested position to execute maintenance inspection work of a door opening/closing device or the like. Operation control information data stored in the control panel 3 can thus be uptaken at the hall without moving to a control panel installed place.
