    • An electrostatographic process cartridge detachably mountable into a cavity defined by mated modules forming parts of an electrostatographic reproduction machine. The process cartridge includes a housing having walls defining a partially enclosed process chamber; a rotatable cylindrical photoreceptive member mounted within a portion of the process chamber and to the walls. The photoreceptive member has a closed loop path within the process chamber and an image bearing surface for holding a formed toner image. The process cartridge also includes plural electrostatographic process toner image forming and transferring components located along the closed loop path for forming a toner image on, and for transferring such toner image from, the image bearing surface; and a cleaning subassembly located along the closed loop path downstream of the toner image forming and transferring components, for removing and transporting waste toner away from the image bearing surface. The cleaning subassembly includes a curved portion of the walls including a blade mounting surface having a plane forming a blade mounting angle with a tangent to the image bearing surface; a cleaning blade mounted to the mounting surface and having a cleaning edge contacting the image bearing surface at a desired cleaning angle for removing waste toner from the image bearing surface; a seal member mounted into contact with the image bearing surface at a point upstream of the cleaning blade so that the seal member, the blade, the image bearing surface and the curved portion of the walls, define the cleaning chamber; and a troughless waste toner transporting auger mounted for rotation without a trough and directly over the image bearing surface within the cleaning chamber for transporting and moving waste toner axially relative to the photoreceptive member and out of the cleaning chamber. The troughless auger has a first end, a second end, and a direction of waste toner movement over the image bearing surface from the first end to the second end a variable pitch for preventing image banding defects from undesirable waste toner accumulations.

    • A developer unit for developing a latent image with marking particles is provided. The developer unit includes a housing defining a chamber for storing a supply of marking particles therein. The developer unit also includes an advancing member for advancing the marking particles on a surface thereof from the chamber of the housing in a first direction toward the latent image. The developer unit also includes a first regulating member for charging the marking particles and for regulating the thickness of the layer of marking particles on the surface of the advancing member. The developer unit also includes a second regulating member spaced from the first regulating member. The second regulating member serves to at least one of charge the layer of marking particles on the surface of the advancing member and regulate the thickness of the layer of marking particles on the surface of the advancing member. The second regulating member is adapted cooperate with the advancing member to charge the marking particles on the surface of the advancing member so as to reduce ghosting when developing the latent image with the marking particles.

Importantly, the process cartridge includes a non-metallic electrically conductive grounding pin mounted to the frame and in contact with the photoreceptive member for aligning and grounding the photoreceptive member, so as to prevent photoreceptive member discharge current from passing to an adjacent machine imager module forming latent images on the charged image bearing surface.

The process cartridge includes an elongate plastic housing having a first side and a second side, as well as an inner surface defining a process chamber. It also includes a rotatable photoreceptive member mounted within the process chamber and to the housing and having an image bearing surface for holding a formed toner image; a rotatable developer member mounted to the housing, and forming a critical development gap with the photoreceptive member within the process chamber for enabling jumping toner image development on the image bearing surface; a drive assembly mounted at the second side of the housing for coupling to the photoreceptive member; and a gear train mounted at the second side of the housing, and coupled to the drive assembly and the developer member for transmitting drive to the developer member. The gear-train as mounted including a developer member gear, and having a resultant drive force pushing the developer member gear away from the photoreceptive member, thus tending to widen the critical development gap. Importantly, the process cartridge includes a resultant force counter-acting member mounted to the second side of the housing for absorbing the drive resultant force. The resultant force counter-acting member includes a wall and a retaining aperture for precisely retaining the developer member in a predetermined aligned position so as to maintain the critical development gap, and thereby ensure uniform quality toner image development.

    • A developer unit is arranged with a replenish port for adding developer compound to the developer pan. The replenish port is arranged so that developer compound added to the replenish port falls through the port to an inclined ramp at one end of the developer pan. Further, the inclined ramp's angle of incline is arranged to exceed the developer compound's angle of repose. As a result, the added developer compound flows down the ramp and towards the agitator. The agitator, in turn, propels the developer compound towards the donor roll.
