    • This invention relates to a rubber composition which contains a block copolymer and a tire having at least one component comprised of such rubber composition. In one aspect of the invention, such rubber composition is comprised of a combination of at least one diene-based elastomer and liquid polymer comprised of a central polyalkylene polymer block, a first terminal hydroxyl group positioned on one end of said polyalkylene polymer block comprised of at least one primary hydroxyl group and a second terminal group positioned on the opposite end of said polyalkylene polymer block comprised of an epoxidized polyisoprene block or a hydrogenated polyisoprene block. The diene-based elastomer may be, for example, cis 1,4-polyisoprene natural rubber and/or other diene-based elastomer. The rubber composition contains reinforcement as carbon black and/or silica together with a coupling agent. The invention further relates to a tire having a tread of such rubber composition.

    • Single-use electrical leads for a nerve stimulator are disclosed. The leads include a status flag element such as a fuse, which is deliberately blown after use of the leads has begun to indicate that the leads are not to be reused. The nerve stimulator has a “test mode” that determines a current value for treatment, and a “therapy mode” that administers treatment with the chosen current value. If the fuse in the electrical leads is blown (not conducting), then the stimulator assumes that the leads have already been used and does not enter therapy mode, and optionally may not enter test mode. If the fuse in the electrical leads is intact (conducting), or not blown, then the stimulator assumes that the leads are as yet unused, and allows the user to enter either test mode or therapy mode. The fuse is deliberately blown after a particular amount of time spent in therapy mode. After the fuse is blown, the user may still complete the therapy mode, even though the fuse is non-conducting, although the user may not initiate another therapy mode (and optionally may not initiate another test mode) using the blown leads. Preferably the fuse is electrically isolated from the leads that contact the patient.

    • This invention relates to high performance tires designed for high vehicular speeds having thin treads with a maximum thickness of about three centimeters with a running surface which is comprised of a rubber composition which is highly loaded with a combination of reinforcing filler and rubber processing oil. The combination of reinforcing filler is comprised of conductive carbon black and optionally at least one of classical rubber reinforcing carbon black and precipitated silica and their mixtures. This high level of a combination of selective reinforcing filler together with rubber processing oil in the tread rubber is provided to promote a reduction in internal heat generation within the thin tread during high vehicular speeds, particularly for vehicles intended to be used as race cars. The carbon black reinforcement is provided as being comprised of a conductive carbon black, which may optionally be combined with a classical rubber reinforcing carbon black, and which may optionally be combined with an amorphous synthetic silica, namely a precipitated silica, to aid in providing a path for thermal conductivity through the thin, high reinforcing filler and rubber processing oil loaded tire tread to its running surface and thence to the ground in order to therefore promote a reduction in internal heat build up within the tread during high speed operation of the tire.

    • The present invention relates to a pneumatic tire with a built-in depolymerized butyl rubber based sealant layer. The built-in sealant layer is of a composition comprised of a partially depolymerized butyl rubber or alternatively comprised of a polymer composite of partially depolymerized butyl rubber, together with partially depolymerized cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber and/or partially depolymerized liquid polyisoprene polymer, which contains a pre-hydrophobated silica. The sealant layer may also contain a colorant of a non-black color which produces a built-in sealant layer of a color which contrasts with a black. Thus the sealant layer may be black in color or may be a color which contrasts with a black color. The butyl rubber-based sealant precursor is built into the tire as a layer to form a tire assembly including such sealant precursor layer wherein the butyl rubber or butyl rubber-based composite portion of the sealant precursor layer is at least partially depolymerized during a subsequent curing of the tire at an elevated temperature in a suitable mold to form the tire having the resultant built-in sealant layer. The sealant precursor composition may additionally contain conventional clay, exfoliated intercalated clay platelets, calcium carbonate and/or corn cob granule fillers.

    • The invention relates to expandable rubber bladders comprised of EPDM rubber for shaping and curing articles of conjugated diene-based elastomers such as pneumatic tires. The bladders are of a rubber composition comprised of resin cured EPDM rubber composition as a terpolymer of ethylene/propylene and a minor amount of a non-conjugated diene. The bladder composition may also contain castor oil, corn oil and/or soya-bean oil. The bladder composition may also contain at least one of graphite and polytetrafluoroethylene powder. Alternately, the EPDM-based bladder rubber composition may also contain a minor amount of a butyl-type of rubber. The invention also relates to a method of curing pneumatic rubber tires by utilizing such EPDM-based expandable rubber tire curing bladder in a tire curing press.
