    • Humidifying apparatus comprises a housing having a water reservoir 140, an air flow generating means 76, 78 (fan) generating an air flow over the reservoir, an air outlet emitting at least part of the air flow, a transducer (160, fig 6B) atomising water in the reservoir, an irradiating means 170 (ultraviolet lamp) irradiating water in the reservoir with ultraviolet radiation, and a control means actuating the air flow generating means, vibration of the transducer and the irradiating means. The control means actuates vibration of the transducer and to actuate simultaneously the irradiating means and vibration of the transducer in an agitation mode for a period of time prior to actuation of the vibration of the transducer in an atomisation mode. The control means may change the vibration mode of the transducer by varying the frequency or amplitude of vibrations and the duty cycle of driving signals supplied to the transducer. A humidity sensor may detect relative humidity of air in an external environment and a level sensor may detect water level in the reservoir. The control means may respectively change the mode of vibration when the detected humidity is above a preset level or an output from the level sensor.

    • A humidifying apparatus (10) includes a nozzle (14) and a base on which the nozzle (14) is mounted. The nozzle (14) has a first air inlet (30), a first air outlet (44), and a first interior passage (48) for conveying air from the first air inlet (30) to the first air outlet (44). The nozzle (14) also includes a second air inlet, a plurality of second air outlets (52), and a second interior passage (54) for conveying air from the second air inlet (42) to the second air outlets (52). The nozzle (14) defines a bore (20) through which air from outside the humidifying apparatus (10) is drawn by air emitted from the air outlets. The body includes a motor (78) and impeller (76) unit for generating a first air flow through the first interior passage (48) and a second air flow through the second interior passage (54), and a water reservoir (140). A first air passageway (62) conveys the first air flow to the first air inlet (30) and a second air passageway (42) conveys the second air flow over the water in the reservoir (140) to the second air inlet (140). Water stored in the reservoir (140) is agitated as the second air flow passes over the reservoir (140). An ultraviolet radiation generator irradiates the agitated water for a period of time before water stored in the reservoir (140) is atomized to increase the humidity of the second air flow.
