    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of the thickness and the parallelism of a large end part and a small end part, and to prevent reduction in the buckling strength and reduction in the fatigue strength of a connecting rod product by coining a crude forging material which is hot forged into the shape of the connecting rod at the prescribed temperature. SOLUTION: A steel stock is hot forged to form a crude forging material of the shape of the connecting rod. Hot coining of >=0.1mm in the thickness direction is performed in a large end part 1a and a small end part 1b of the crude forging material at the temperature of >=700 deg.C, or until the temperature is dropped to 700 deg.C. After the crude forging material is naturally cooled, the scale on the surface is removed by the shot blast to obtain a product connecting rod through machining. In order to decrease the cutting margin during the machining, coining may be performed only on the large end part 1a and the small end part 1b. Because a rod part 1c is not plastically deformed, the buckling strength of the product connecting rod is not decreased. The coining effect is improved when the structure of the connecting rod is ferrite-pearlite.

      SOLUTION: This intake valve has the umbrella part 2 of an umbrella shape for opening and closing an intake passage of the internal combustion engine and a valve stem 3 for transmitting opening-closing operation to the umbrella part 2 and arranged on the reverse surface side of the umbrella part 2; and is molded so that a rate β ( = r/D) of a minimum radius (r) up to a reverse surface of the umbrella part 2 from a central point of a surface of the umbrella part 2 to a diameter D of the umbrella part, satisfies a predetermined expression of including heat conductivity α of a material of the umbrella part 2 and fatigue strength at 250 °C as a variable when manufacturing the intake valve 1 for the internal combustion engine having an umbrella part material being a metal or metal group composite material. The intake valve 1 manufactured in this way, has very high temperature strength, and also superior heat conductivity, and can contribute to an enhancement in heat efficiency and anti-knocking performance of the internal combustion engine.
