摘要： Methods and devices are provided for delivery an orthopedic, e.g., calcium phosphate cement to a target bone site. In practicing the subject methods, a flowable cement composition is delivered to a target bone site in conjunction with vibration. Also provided are the devices that deliver a flowable cement to a target bone site according to the subject methods. Introducing a flowable cement to a target bone site in conjunction with vibration in accordance with the subject methods provides for highly controlled penetration of the delivered cement throughout the target bone site without the use of substantial pressure. The subject devices and methods find use in a variety of different applications, and are particularly suited for use in applications where a calcium phosphate cement is to be delivered to cancellous tissue, e.g., as found in a vertebral body.

In the subject methods, dry reactants and a setting fluid are combined with a barium apatite contrast agent, and the combined reactants are mixed to produce the settable composition. A feature of the invention is that the barium apatite contrast agent is particulate agent in which the particles have a size sufficient to provide a “peppered” appearance to the cement when imaged, such as when radiographically imaged. Also provided are the compositions themselves as well as kits for preparing the same. The subject methods and compositions produced thereby find use in a variety of applications, including hard tissue repair applications, such as vertebroplasty applications.

摘要： Methods and devices for reducing the mineral content of a region of non-intimal vascular tissue are provided. In the subject methods, an isolated local environment that includes the region to be demineralized is produced. The pH of the local environment is then reduced to a subphysiologic level, e.g. by flushing with an acidic dissolution fluid, for a period of time sufficient for the mineral content of the region to be reduced. The devices of the subject invention are characterized by comprising a means for producing an isolated local environment that includes a non-intimal region of vascular tissue. Also provided are kits for practicing the subject methods.

摘要： Methods, compositions and apparatus are provided for coating a substrate with a strongly adherent hydroxyapatite coating, which allows for ingrowth of natural bone and strong bonding between the coating and the substrate. The procedure provides for coating under conditions which form sticky particles which bind to the substrate to form a crystalline hydroxyapatite coating. The coating has particular application for prostheses, where porous areas of the prostheses are completely coated with a thin sturdy coating of hydroxyapatite.The apparatus includes a coating trough in which the substrates are present and the reactive components added. The medium is recirculated in an outer circuit through a distribution tank solution preparation tank and coating trough. Means are provided for maintaining temperature and pH. The substrates are maintained in a line normal to the flow in the trough and can be rotated to ensure even coating.

Additional waste streams such as liquid, solid, or multiphasic waste streams may be processed as well.
