    • An algorithm is stored in a local memory of radio devices (a network access nodes/eNB and user equipments/UEs) which identifies a non-consecutive periodic series of radio frames. In a designated subframe of each of these non-consecutive periodic series of radio frames there is an indication of a downlink-uplink configuration of subframes to be used beginning in a predetermined subsequent radio frame (such as the next radio frame). This allows the network to change the DL-UL configuration more frequently than simply changing it in system information, with minimal signaling overhead. In specific embodiments the algorithm is SFN mod 2 = 0 and the bits for signaling the DL-UL configuration are scrambled with SI-RNTI. In one embodiment the signaling bits in the designated subframe and frame are for this DL-UL configuration purpose, while in other frames/subframes they are conventionally used for HARQ process number, downlink assignment index and/or transmit power control.
