    • When drilling or completing an oil or gas well, it is often desirable to drill a borehole at an angle to the initial borehole. A process for deflecting a well tool towards the wall of a well bore comprises positioning within the well bore a radially expandable pipe designed to curve longitudinally when its diameter is expanded, expanding the diameter of the radially expandable pipe thereby causing the pipe to curve and passing the well tool through the curved pipe: The process is particularly suitable for through-tubing operations in which a lateral bore is initiated from a production well having within the well a smaller diameter production tubing ( 14 ) comprising (i) passing through the production tube ( 14 ) a radially expandable pipe ( 1 ) designed to curve longitudinally as its diameter is expanded, into a section of well bore ( 12 ) having a diameter greater than the diameter of the production tubing ( 14 ) (ii) expanding the diameter of the radially expandable pipe ( 1 ) thereby causing the pipe to curve, (iii) passing through the curved pipe a milling device or drill bit and (iv) milling the casing or drilling into the well bore wall.

    • A method of drilling a second wellbore section ( 12 ) from a first wellbore section ( 10 ) that is lined with a tubular liner ( 11 ) using a remotely controlled electrically powered drilling assembly that is suspended from a cable ( 1 ) and of periodically interrupting the drilling operation to extend the tubular liner into the second wellbore section without having to pull the assembly from the wellbore. The drilling assembly comprises an expansion means ( 2 ), a traction means ( 3 ), and an electrically actuated drill bit ( 6 ). An expandable liner pipe ( 19 ) is introduced into the wellbore by disconnecting a cable connection means ( 15 ) at the surface to separate the upper ( 13 ) and lower ( 14 ) lengths of cable, arranging the expandable liner pipe ( 19 ) concentrically about the upper ( 13 ) or lower ( 14 ) length of cable, reconnecting the cable connection means ( 15 ) to rejoin the upper ( 13 ) and lower ( 14 ) lengths of cable and running the expandable liner pipe ( 19 ) into the wellbore supported on a cable traction means ( 20 ) that is moveable along the cable.

    • A method of drilling a borehole from a selected location in an existing wellbore (1) penetrating subterranean earth formation having at least one hydrocarbon bearing zone (3) wherein the existing wellbore is provided with a casing (4) and a hydrocarbon fluid production conduit (6) is arranged in the existing wellbore in sealing relationship with the wall of the casing, the method comprising: passing a remotely controlled electrically operated drilling device (12) from the surface through the hydrocarbon fluid production conduit to the selected location in the existing wellbore; operating the drilling device such that cutting surfaces on the drilling device drill the borehole from the selected location in the existing wellbore thereby generating drill cuttings wherein during operation of the drilling device, a first stream of produced fluid flows directly to the surface through the hydrocarbon fluid production conduit and a second stream of produced fluid is pumped over the cutting surfaces of the drilling device via a remotely controlled electrically operated downhole pumping means and the drill cuttings are transported away from the drilling device entrained in the second stream of produced fluid.
