摘要： A conditional autodialer coupled to a telephone line is adapted to selectively automatically dial a predetermined telephone number, after a predetermined delay period following the appearance of an on-hook to off-hook transition on the telephone line. The autodialer includes an off-hook detector, a touch tone detector, a memory for storing the predetermined number, a dialer and a controller (such as a microprocessor) coupled to receive signals from the off-hook detector and touch tone detector, to communicate with the memory and to provide command signals to the dialer. In operation, the controller responds to an off-hook condition by starting the delay period. I f the delay period successfully times out, the controller reads the predetermined number from memory and enables the dialer to dial the number onto the telephone line. However, if, during the delay period, the presence of a DTMF digit or an incoming call is sensed, dialing the predetermined number onto the line is prevented. Preferably, both the predetermined number and the length of the predetermined delay period are programmable from the telephone set. The conditional autodialer may be embodied in a stand-alone unit or integrated with an individual telephone set.

摘要： A method, and apparatus for practicing the method, for eliminating the necessity for manually dialing a local area code as a prefix to a call within the same area code in telephone systems in which such action is a requirement. An automatic dialer is activated and immediately transmits the local area code onto the caller's telephone line when an off-hook condition is sensed; e.g., when a telephone handset is picked up. Thus, the caller can merely then dial an ordinary seven digit telephone number within the local area code. In order to provide for the selective dialing of long distance, when the caller "flashes" his line within a predetermined period (typically, a few seconds) after picking it up, a hang-up followed by a second off-hook is emulated; however, the automatic dialer is inhibited from again transmitting the area code. Consequently, the caller is presented with a dial tone, and a telephone number, including an area code which may be different from the local area code, may be successfully dialed.

摘要： An audio storage and playback unit coupled to the telephone line is adapted to record a message off the telephone line in response to the application of a "record" control signal and to play back the recorded message onto the telephone line in response to the application of a "play" signal. A fir st tone decoder responds to the actuation of a first predetermined key on the telephone key pad by generating the "record" signal. A second tone decoder responds to the actuation of a second predetermined key by instituting the generation of the "play" signal. In a preferred embodiment, a third tone decoder responds to the actuation of a third predetermined key by instituting the generation of a "stop" signal. Thus, if a call is received which is for a pa rty other than the person who answered the call, the caller may leave a voice messag e. The person who took the call pushes the first predetermined key to start recordi ng the message and the third predetermined key to stop recording. Later, when the person for whom the call was intended is available, he/she may pick up a telephone and touch the second predetermined key to start playback of the message. When the message has been delivered, the user may touch the third predetermined key to end the playback process.

摘要： An automatic telephone recorder includes a computer equipped with a sound signal handling feature and a digital recording medium such as a disk drive. The sound signal handling feature includes an audio input, an audio output and programmable means for selectively effecting digital recording on the recording medium of an audio signal applied to the sound signal handling means input. A line transformer is connected between a telephone line pair and the sound signal handling means audio input. The sound signal handling means is programmed to periodically test the sound signal handling means audio input to determine if audio or a predetermined transient signal, indicating that the telephone line has gone from an on-hook condition to an off-hook condition, is present. If the audio or transient signal is present, the sound signal handling means is programmed to institute recording of any audio signal present at the sound signal handling means audio input for as long as such audio remains. In one embodiment, a pulse stretcher circuit responds to sensing the presence of the pulse by generating a time-extended signal which the sound signal handling means can sample, thus relieving the computer from the necessity to continuously sample the transient signal source at a relatively high rate which ties up the central processor resources.

摘要： A method, and apparatus for practicing the method, for eliminating the necessity for manually dialing, on a wireless telephone, a local area code as a prefix to a call within the same area code in telephone systems in which such action is a requirement. Before a calling party institutes a call on a cellular telephone, the area code is semi-permanently stored in the cellular telephone. During the dialing process, after the seventh digit has been dialed and before an eighth digit has been dialed, a determination is made as to whether the "send" button has been actuated. If so, then the stored area code is prefixed to the seven dialed digits, and the resulting ten digit number is transmitted. If not, then the dialing continues until the "send" button is actuated at which time the fully dialed number is transmitted. Typically, the latter condition indicates that a long distance call is in process. Thus, in a preferred embodiment, a determination is made that eleven digits have been dialed, and those eleven digits are transmitted. Because a cellular telephone is portable by nature, provision is made to update the automatically-prefixed area code when the cellular telephone is moved to a different area code.

摘要： The present invention is a system of at least one cordless telephone, a hom e base station and at least one non-home base station. A roaming cordless telephone out of range of its home base station will use a non-home base station to direct digital mode signals to its home base station. The home base station will convert the digital mode signals to analog signals and communicate them with the telepho ne network. Only a single direct line connection is needed for the home base station, as the digital mode signals and the analog signals communications do not interfere with each other. The user may potentially avoid long distance charges by using th e non--home base station as a conduit while using the home base station as the telephone network site for long distance charge accrual. Further, the necessity for using a cellular telephone with the consequent charges is avoided.
