[Classes 79 (iii), 136 (i), and 136 (iii).] A duplex frame for a motor-cycle comprises a pair of upper substantially straight bars 1, 2, and a lower pair of bent bars 3, 3 extending between the tubular head 6 and the rear wheel axle 7, the frames on the two sides being spaced apart an appropriate distance to accommodate the engine aggregate and the structure being reinforced by a stiffener 5 connected to the four bars intermediately, while the head 6 preferably has welded thereto outstanding lugs 4 to which the four frame bars are connected. In the construction shown the upper bars 1, 2 are formed from a single U-shaped member having its limbs parallel at their central parts but curved outwardly towards the front where they join the head 6. The petrol tank 9 is formed of upper and lower parts 43, 44 united along a flange 45, which rests on the curved parts of the bars 1, 2 and is connected to the frame by three clamps 46, two disposed behind the head 6 and one attached to a plate 10 extending between and reinforcing the bars 1, 2. The saddle 11 is supported on a U-shaped member 28, pivoted at its front end to the bars 1, 2, upon a bolt 30, and supported at its rear by one or more springs 34. A similar U-shaped member 35 pivoted on a bolt 22 supports the pillion seat 21 and bears upon two springs 38, connected at their lower ends to the stays 26 of the rear mud-guard 20. The latter is also pivoted on the bolt 22, and the stays 26 are readily detachable from the axle 7, whereby the mud-guard and pillion seat may be swung upwards when the rear wheel is to be dismounted. The engine is mounted on the bars 3, 31 between the stiffener 5 and the upwardly extending front portions of the bars 3, 31, while depending plates 39 are secured to the latter bars to form supporting means for a pivoted U-shaped crutch or rest 40, which is of such a length that, when lowered, both wheels of the cycle may just remain in contact with the ground. In a modification the four frame bars are secured at their forward ends to wings on a substantially cylindrical member embracing the tubular head 6.

    • 246,039. Fisker, P. A. July 20, 1925. Filtering.-A vacuum cleaner is provided with a filter bag which extends into the dust container and filters the dust at its outer surface, the bag having means for turning it inside out without removal irom the container, so that the dust may be shaken off. The filter. Fig. 1, is secured to an upper ring 4 provided with a rubber coating 3 and clamped between the dust container 1 and fan casing 2. The bottom of the filter is clamped between two discs 6, 7, which may be starshaped, stays 9 connecting them to a ring 10 by which, when the container is removed from the fan casing, the bottom of the bag may be lifted to invert the bag and shake the dust into the container. The ring may be replaced by a cross,. bar, star, disc, or other device. Fig. 6 shows a filter in the form of a cone, the smaller end of which is inverted, the apex and the stays being secured to a perforated disc 10 , the disc being attached to the ring 4 by a bayonet joint &c. The stays may be replaced by a cylinder.
