    • Disclosed is a thermoplastic composition including A) a polyamide resin having a melting point and/or glass transition; B) 0.25 to 20 weight percent of at least one polyhydric polymer; C) 0 to 3 weight percent of one or more co-stabilizer(s); and, D) 0 to about 60 weight percent of one or more reinforcement agents, wherein said polyamide resin is selected from the group consisting of Group (III) Polyamides having said melting point of at least 210° C., and including about 20 to about 35 mole percent semiaromatic repeat units, Group (IV) Polyamides comprising about 50 to about 95 mole percent semiaromatic repeat units, Group (V) Polyamides having said melting point of at least 260° C., and including greater than 95 mole percent semiaromatic repeat units, and Group (VI) Polyamides having no melting point; with the proviso that when less than 10 weight percent said one or more reinforcement agent(s) is present, at least 0.1 weight % of said one or more co-stabilizer(s) also is present.

    • This invention relates to flame retardants for polyester and polyamide compositions, and specifically relates to compositions containing (1) about 30 to about 70 weight percent of a polyester or a synthetic, aliphatic polyamide; (2) about 15 to about 40 weight percent of glass or mineral reinforcing agent; and (3) a flame retardant of (a) about 20 to about 30 weight percent of melamine phosphate and up to about 10 weight percent of a charring catalyst; (b) about 15 to about 30 weight percent of melamine phosphate, up to about 10 weight percent of a charring catalyst and up to about 10 weight percent of a char former; (c) about 25 to about 30 weight percent of melamine pyrophosphate; (d) about 15 to about 30 weight percent of melamine pyrophosphate and up to about 10 weight percent of a charring catalyst; or (e) about 15 to about 30 weight percent of melamine pyrophosphate, up to about 10 weight percent of a charring catalyst and up to about 10 weight percent of a char former, wherein all percents by weight are based on the total weight of (1)+(2)+(3) only.

    • Disclosed is a polyamide composition including at least one semi-aromatic copolyamide, said semi-aromatic copolyamide consisting essentially of about 25 to about 55 mole percent repeat units of the formula —C(O)(CH2)mC(O)NHCH2ArCH2NH—  (I) and about 45 to about 75 mole percent repeat units of the formula —C(O)(CH2)mC(O)NH(CH2)nNH—  (II) wherein m is 8, 10, and/or 12, n is 6, 10 and/or 12 and Ar is a meta-substituted benzene ring; and said polyamide has a melting point equal to or less than 225° C.; and 0.25 to 20 weight percent of one or more polyhydroxy polymer(s) having a number average molecular weight of at least 2000 and selected from the group consisting of ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer and poly(vinyl alcohol). Also disclosed are molded or extruded articles including the polyamide composition.
