    • A remotely actuated nail clipping apparatus includes a nail clipper body having upper and lower jaws with opposed cutting surfaces. An actuating lever is remotely disposed from the nail clipper body. A linkage, which operably couples the actuating lever to the nail clipper body, passes through the upper jaw of the nail clipper body and interfaces with the lower jaw and enables the user to pull the lower jaw upward toward the upper jaw into a cutting configuration whereby the opposed cutting surfaces of the two jaws engage one another to thereby clip a nail disposed therebetween. Preferably, a hollow vertical shaft rigidly couples the upper jaw of the nail clipper body to the actuating lever and the linkage extends through the interior of the shaft. A platform is preferably secured to the top end of the shaft and provides a support surface for the actuation lever.

    • A tool for coring a portion of one or more hair follicles incorporates an elongate hollow tubular member with at least one cut-out disposed between its distal end and proximal end. The cut-out allows for removal of debris that moves it way up the hollow tubular member from the opened distal tip. The needle can also include a radially-extending projection that cooperates with zero or more ring-shaped members that are slipped concentrically over the distal end of the hollow tubular member to set the penetration depth of the coring needle. The tool can also include a stepped interface that is adapted to snag a root of a hair follicle unit cored by the hollow tubular member upon its withdrawal away from the patient's body.

    • An ocular lens has a refractive optics structure formed from a polyisobutylene-based material and a glassy segment that is non-reactive to ocular fluid and that maintains in vivo transparency for a substantial time period. The material has a central elastomeric polyolefinic block and thermoplastic end blocks (such as a triblock polymer backbone comprising polystyrene-polyisobutylene-polystyrene). The material is preferably flexible such that the refractive optics structure can be folded upon itself and introduced through a small scleral incision. The lens device includes an optic portion and preferably either an annular haptic element or one or more haptic elements adapted to rest within a capsular bag formed by a surgical procedure. A portion of the lens device may be loaded with at least one therapeutic agent that interferes with proliferation of the epithelial cells of the eye to protect against PCO.

    • Modular endoluminal stent-grafts include at least two different sized stent-grafts which are deployed one within the other. According to one embodiment of the invention, a first stent-graft is provided having a flared end which is expandable to a first diameter and a midsection which is expandable to a second diameter smaller than the first diameter. A second stent-graft is also provided having an end which is expandable to a diameter which engages the midsection of the first stent-graft. The first embodiment of the invention is deployed by expanding the first stent-graft such that its flared end engages a large diameter vessel, then expanding the second stent-graft inside the midsection of the first stent graft and inside a small diameter vessel such that the second stent graft engages the small diameter vessel and the midsection of the first stent-graft. According to a second embodiment of the invention, the midsection of the first stent-graft is reinforced with a flexible member to restrict the midsection from ballooning. According to other aspects of the invention, the first stent-graft is provided with two flared ends and the second stent graft is provided with or without flared ends. According to still another embodiment of the invention, three or more stent-grafts of different expanded diameter are deployed one within the other.

    • A delivery device for delivering an implantable, radially expandable medical device having a constricted region for occluding fluid flow to a desired location in a body lumen. The delivery device includes an outer sleeve, an inner tube terminating at its distal end in a plunger, and a tapered guide member. In one embodiment, the tapered guide member is attached to and extends away from the constricted region of the occlusion device, and is thus implanted in the body lumen along with the occlusion device upon deployment of the occlusion device at the desired treatment location. In a second embodiment, the tapered guide member is integrated into the constricted region of the occlusion device. In a third embodiment, an inflatable balloon is positioned distally of the medical device, and when inflated provides a tapered guide surface that eases the navigation of the delivery device through the body lumen. Upon deployment of the medical device at the desired location, the balloon is deflated to such a size as to be able to be withdrawn through the constricted region of the occlusion device, and is thus removed from the body lumen.
