    • A gaming machine includes main and secondary displays. The secondary display is disposed apart from the primary display and is used for presenting primary, secondary, or even tertiary information. The main display is controlled electronically by a gaming machine controller, which main display presents the results of a play on the gaming machine. In the case of a slot machine, the main display may be the glass display through which the spinning reels of a game play are viewed. In a video poker gaming machine, the main display is usually a cathode ray tube (“CRT”) which displays a video game image to the player and other information directly associated with the game play. The secondary display may be provided at various locations on the gaming machine such as in a top glass portion of the gaming machine or a belly glass portion of the gaming machine, which belly glass portion is located below a main display portion of the gaming machine. The secondary display itself may be a liquid crystal display, a cathode ray tube, a field emission display, a plasma display, a digital micromirror device (DMD), etc.

    • Magnetic recording elements which combine low modulation noise with excellent high frequency output and their process of preparation are disclosed. Such elements comprise a support having a surface with a peak-to-peak roughness up to about 0.5 micron, which surface is coated with a magnetic recording medium having a thickness in the range of 4 to about 20 microns. The magnetic recording medium comprises about 8 to 30 percent, by volume, of discrete, non-solid, nonmagnetizable voids that are substantially homogeneously dispersed therein. The magnetic recording medium also contains aligned and oriented acicular magnetizable particles dispersed in a magnetic recording layer which forms an outer surface of the magnetic recording element and has a surface smoothness, determined as percent contact area, of at least 86 percent, the ratio of the thickness of the magnetic recording medium to the peak-to-peak roughness of the support in the elements disclosed is at least 10.The process disclosed for preparing the above magnetic recording elements comprises the steps of:(a) forming a dispersion of acicular magnetizable particles in a solution of binder in solvent,(b) coating a support having a peak-to-peak roughness up to about 0.5 micron with a magnetic medium comprising a layer of the dispersion as the outermost layer with respect to the support,(c) applying a magnetic field to the medium while it still contains solvent to align the magnetic particles,(d) removing substantially all solvent within the medium while forming at least 10 percent, by volume, of substantially homogeneously dispersed, discrete, gaseous, non-magnetizable voids, and(e) compacting the medium to reduce the volume of the voids by at least 15 percent to a final volume of about 8 to 30 percent and to obtain a ratio of the medium thickness to the peak-to-peak roughness of at least 10 and often from 10 to 300 while imparting a surface smoothness, determined as percent contact area, of at least 86 percent to the outermost magnetic recording layer.

    • A dual action access door for a gaming machine that is formed from the lower front housing portion. In order to minimize the space required between adjacent gaming machines, while providing full access to the interior of the machine, the front housing portion is carried by a door chassis which enables the front housing portion to move in a drawer-like manner from a fully closed position to an extended position. In order to provide full access to the interior of the gaming machine, the front housing portion is pivotally connected on one end to the door chassis to enable the door to pivot about an axis generally parallel to a vertical datum in at least a partially extended position of the door chassis. One or more latching mechanisms may be provided to latch the front housing portion to latch the front housing portion in a closed position. The dual action mounting of the front housing portion allows full access to the interior of the gaming machine while at the same time enabling gaming machines to be placed closer together, thus optimizing the number of gaming machines that can be placed in a given area of a casino or other gambling facility floor.
