    • The present optical image viewing fiberoptic otoscope electromagnetically passive. A body portion is connectable to a light source and has mounted to it a fiberoptic cable and an optical viewer. The fiberoptic cable is thin and flexible, and contains separate light and image transmission paths. Its distal end is adapted for emitting and receiving light. The body includes a light source connection for interfacing an external light source. An optical-type image viewer attached to the body is in light communication with the image path for displaying a received image for viewing by a user. One or more tools are mountable to the otoscope body or fiberoptic cable for performing an operation at the distal end of the fiberoptic cable, e.g., removal of a material from the site. Optionally, the otoscope body may be mounted to a headband via an articulated support arm.

    • An apparatus and method for reconstructing missing data using cross-parity stripes on a storage medium is provided. The apparatus and method may operate on data symbols having sizes greater than a data bit. The apparatus and method makes use of a plurality of parity stripes for reconstructing missing data stripes. The parity symbol values in the parity stripes are used as a basis for determining the value of the missing data symbol in a data stripe. A correction matrix is shifted along the data stripes, correcting missing data symbols as it is shifted. The correction is performed from the outside data stripes towards the inner data stripes to thereby use previously reconstructed data symbols to reconstruct other missing data symbols.

    • An alarm clock includes a processor and a plurality of stored audio message files in data communication with the processor. The processor is in data communication with an audio source, a speaker, a display, a user input, and a clock. The alarm clock includes a case containing these components. The processor includes programming to actuate the display to visually present time data from the clock, actuate the speaker to audibly present a first audio message file at a first alarm time, actuate the speaker to audibly present audio from the audio source after the speaker audibly presents the first audio message file, and actuate the speaker to audibly present a second audio message file at a second alarm time, actuate the speaker to audibly present audio from the audio source after the speaker audibly presents the second audio message file.

    • An Internet-based purchasing system and associated method, including: (i) a remote terminal for use by a consumer; (ii) an on-line purchasing system, wherein the system further includes a system database in communication with the remote terminal for storing both consumer information and ticket and merchandise information; (iii) a user interface between the remote terminal and the on-line purchasing system for allowing the exchange of information and commands between the remote terminal and the on-line purchasing system; (iv) at least one source system in communication with the on-line purchasing system for allowing vendors of tickets or merchandise to sell items on-line, wherein the source system further includes a source database for storing current ticket and merchandise information; (v) a communication interface between the on-line purchasing system and the source system for allowing data exchange between the systems; (vi) software means for allowing the on-line purchasing system to monitor the source system for current ticket or merchandise information and communicate the information back to the on-line purchasing system; (vii) software means for allowing the on-line purchasing system to execute the purchase of tickets or merchandise from the source system based on the current information; and (viii) software means for allowing the source system to communicate with the remote terminal to indicate the completion of the purchase to the consumer.
