The pump may also have a port plate (53) with an inlet port (72), a discharge port (74), and a protrusion (94). The port plate may be configured to engage an end of the rotatable body. The pump may further have at least one piston (90, 92)disposed within the housing and configured to selectively engage the protrusion of the port plate to rotate the port plate and adjust the swivel torque.

    • To gain new insights into the mechanism of soybean resistance to the soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines), gene expression profiles of developing syncytia in soybean near-isogenic lines (NILs) differing at the at Rhg1 locus were compared. Gene expression profiling revealed that 1,447 genes were differentially expressed between the line that is resistant to SCN and the line that is sensitive to SCN infection. These results indicate that syncytia induced in the resistant line are undergoing severe oxidative stress and imbalanced endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis, both of which likely contribute to the resistance reaction. Defense-related genes up-regulated within syncytia of the resistant line included those predominantly involved in apoptotic cell death, the plant hypersensitive response, and salicylic acid (SA)-mediated defense signaling; many of these genes were partially suppressed by a virulent soybean cyst nematode population for successful nematode reproduction and development on the resistant line. Expression of these SCN responsive genes may be manipulated to obtain SCN resistant lines.

    • In various embodiments, an obstetrical device 10 is provided for assisting a cesarean section delivery of a neonate having a fetal presenting part well seated within the mother's pelvis. Generally, the device 10 comprises a tubular tail 22 having an internal lumen 30 and a hollow head 26 extending from a distal end 58 of the tail 22 and having an internal chamber 34 fluidly connected to the lumen 30. The head 26 includes at least one aperture 38 extending through an exterior wall. The device 10 is operable to position the head 26 near or in contact with the fetal presenting part to provide air into an area near and/or between contact surfaces 62 of the fetal presenting part and a vagina 14 and/or a cervix 18 of the mother. Providing the air will reduce or release a suction formed between the contact surfaces 62 such that the well seated fetal presenting part can be easily separated from the vagina 14 and/or the cervix 18.
