    • An antenna apparatus for use in a portable cellular telephone that can avoid deterioration in signal radiation characteristics caused by the adverse influence of a user's head during the use of the telephone. Two sleeves have been fixed to a housing for a portable cellular telephone. A linear radiating conductor having a .lambda./4-electrical length is slidably supported by the housing by way of the two sleeves so that it can be both freely pulled out of or accommodated in the housing. The radiating conductor is extended at one end on the side of the power-feed point by a length equivalent to n.lambda./2. Also, a tubular conductor is coaxially disposed with the extended portion so as to form a power-feed coaxial line. When the radiating conductor is pulled out of the housing to such a degree as to reveal the coaxial line, the monopole antenna projects sufficiently away from a user's head, and a deterioration in signal radiation characteristics can thus be prevented.

    • In a mobile radio transceiver, an antenna has a fixed element and a movable element. When the movable element is in an extended state, the movable element functions. On the other hand, when the movable element is in a retracted state, the fixed element functions. An impedance matching circuit preferentially performs impedance matching relative to the fixed element. A reactance element is further provided which is connected to the movable element when the movable element is in the extended state. On the other hand, the reactance element is out of connection to the movable element when the movable element is in the retracted state. With this arrangement, the impedance matching circuit and the reactance element cooperatively achieve impedance matching relative to the movable element when the movable element functions. Alternatively, if the impedance matching circuit preferentially performs impedance matching relative to the movable element, the reactance element is connected to the fixed element when the fixed element functions.

    • In order to provide a broad-band non-grounded type ultrashort-wave antenna which has sufficiently high sensitivity characteristics and broad-band VSWR characteristics even in an expanded frequency band, is able to use a small-diameter antenna element, is light in weight and simple in structure, and can be manufactured inexpensively, an antenna element parallel resonance part, that is formed by the inductance and distributed capacitance of the rod-form antenna element which has an electrical length close to lambda/2 or an integral multiple of lambda/2, and a metal member parallel resonance part, that is formed by the electrostatic capacitance between first and second metal members which are installed parallel to each other and have respective electrical lengths of lambda/4 and the inductance of the first metal member, are electrostatically coupled by the stray capacity that exists between the antenna element and an electrostatic coupling piece projected from the second metal member, thus forming a double-tuned circuit. The antenna thus constructed has the VSWR characteristics of a twin-peak form, thus being suitable for a broader frequency trend and having a desired gain for the entire frequency band used.
