    • A closed-loop circuit arrangement sequentially operates in a tracking mode before the shutter of a single lens reflex camera is actuated, and then in a holding mode after the shutter is actuated. The circuit arrangement receives from a conventional photoelectric circuit a first analog signal that instantaneously represents exposure time so long as light entering the camera impinges on the photoelectric circuit. A register in the circuit arrangement provides a digital multi-bit signal that is converted to a second analog signal. The first and second analog signals are compared to produce an error signal used during the tracking mode in controlling the register so that the digital multi-bit signal varies until the first and second analog signals represent the same exposure time. After the shutter is actuated, the register serves as a memory thereby causing the second analog signal to statically represent exposure time.

    • An exposure time control circuit for a camera includes a level selecting circuit between a light measuring circuit and a memory circuit to have a selected output memorized in the memory circuit. The level selecting circuit is provided with two inputs, one of which is the output of the light measuring circuit indicative of the scene brightness and the other of which is the output of a maximum exposure time output source indicative of the maximum exposure time acceptable to the camera. The memory circuit memorizes the output selected by the level selecting circuit which output indicates a shorter exposure time between the two.

    • The device includes a permanent magnet for attracting a movable iron armature. A pair of elongated rectilinear magnetic bodies have planar pole faces at one end facing the iron armature, and the permanent magnet is sandwiched between these two magnetic members intermediate their ends, with the permanent magnet extending perpendicularly to the magnetic members. Respective magnetizing windings embrace each magnetic member between the permanent magnet and the pole faces of the members, to produce a magnetic flux in the magnetic members opposing the flux provided by the permanent magnet so as to release the iron armature. In one embodiment of the invention, the other ends of the members, projecting beyond the permanent magnet, are angled to face each other to provide an air gap therebetween. In a second embodiment of the invention, the magnetic members or yokes have respective second windings thereon, beyond the permanent magnet, and the ends of these yokes, beyond the second windings, are formed with planar pole faces for operative association with a second iron armature. Both iron armatures are spring biased to disengage the magnetic yokes or members. As the permanent magnet engages the yokes intermediate their ends, the magnetic flux path due to the magnetizing windings does not include the permanent magnet and therefore an effective armature releasing magnetic flux can be provided with only a relatively small current supplied to the magnetizing windings.

The signal developed to indicate the exposure time takes into consideration exposure factors other then the delay for variaions in brightness, for control of exposure time. This other factor is introduced by camera adjustments which effect automatically adjustment of a variable resistor as a function of the exposure factor being adjusted and this resistor varies a bias voltage on a transistor of a differential amplifier for varying the output thereof to apply a variation to a switching circuit controlling the shutter to change its switching level and the switching signal closing the shutter. This varied and time-delayed signal is visually indicated in a meter as the actual exposure time before the taking of an exposure.

A solenoid, such as a rotary solenoid or linear solenoid magnetically latches the shutter in the open position during exposure until the solenoid coil is energized at the completion of the required exposure time to neutralize the magnetic flux in the magnetic stator of the solenoid, overcoming the magnetic latch and, due to a spring, thereafter biasing the armature to a second position which, through the mechanical linkage of the camera, closes the shutter.
