摘要： PURPOSE:To site-selectively obtain a methylthiobenzene compound useful as an intermediate for herbicide by reacting a specific compound with methyl mercaptan and subjecting the obtained dithioketal compound to dehydrogenation and desulfenylation. CONSTITUTION:This methylthiobenzene compound of formula V or formula Vl can be produced by reacting (A) a compound of formula I or formula II (R1 and R2 each is H, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an alkylamino, an alkylthio or phenyl or R1 and R2 together form a ring which may contain hetero atom in the ring; R3, R4 and R5 each is H, an alkyl, an alkanoyl, an alkoxycarbonyl or carbamoyl) with (B) methyl mercaptan and subjecting the obtained (C) a dithioketal compound of formula III or formula IV to dehydrogenation and desulfenylation in the presence of a quinone or dimethyl sulfoxide and sulfur.
