The deterioration determining component is configured to determine if deterioration of the NOx trapping catalytic converter has occurred based on the estimated amount of accumulated particulate matter and the detected amount of accumulated particulate matter without using a NOx sensor to determine if the NOx trapping catalytic converter has deteriorated.

The air control valves are opened at different timings such that pressure fluctuations in the joint portion upon opening of the firstly and the secondly opened air control valves are measured. An abnormality diagnosis is performed with respect to those two air control valves based on combinations of the aforementioned two pressure fluctuations.

摘要： A failure diagnosis apparatus for secondary air supplier according to the present invention determines a failure of a secondary air supplier based on pressure and pressure pulsation in a secondary air supply path. A failure diagnosis is made by determining the presence or absence of pressure pulsation in the secondary air supply path based on a determination threshold, and in the present invention the determination threshold is varied according to a pressure value in the secondary air supply path (a smoothed value or an average value of measured pressure). This permits the apparatus to make an accurate failure diagnosis, while eliminating pressure pulsations except for that due to exhaust pulsation (e.g., that due to noise of the pressure sensor and that caused by surging of an air pump).

The apparatus includes a pressure detector for detecting pressure in the secondary air supply path, and an anomaly judgment section for calculating pulsation level indicative of the degree of pulsation of pressure detected by the pressure detector and for judging, on the basis of at least the pulsation level, whether or not the secondary air supply system is anomalous. The apparatus further includes an anomaly judgment prohibiting section for prohibiting judgment by the anomaly judgment section when the degree of propagation of intake air pulsation arising in the intake path into the secondary air supply path is equal to or higher than a predetermined level.

摘要： A method for diagnosing a secondary-air system of an internal combustion engine. The secondary-air system introduces secondary air into the exhaust-gas region of the internal combustion engine, the secondary air exothermically reacting together with combustible exhaust-gas components, and a thermoreactor being formed in the reaction region. The method provides for a measure of the secondary air to be ascertained from the thermal behavior in the thermoreactor and evaluated. The measure of the secondary air, which reflects, for example, the volumetric flow rate of the secondary air, the mass flow rate of the secondary air, or the amount or mass of secondary air flowing in a time interval, is compared to at least one threshold value. At least one diagnostic signal is then generated as a function of the comparison result.

摘要： The invention relates to an internal combustion engine which has charge-air supercharging by means of an exhaust-gas turbocharger and secondary air injection, the flow path of which is selected in such a way that the quantity of secondary air injected has an influence on the rotational speed of the turbocharger. By monitoring the rotational speed of the turbocharger, an increase in the rotational speed caused by the secondary air injection is determined, and the quantity of secondary air injected is worked out from the increase in rotational speed. This has the advantage that there is no need for complex temperature-measuring methods as have hitherto been employed. Rotational speed measurement can be carried out contactlessly and with absolutely no wear in particular by means of inductive rotational-speed sensors. Moreover, these inductive rotational-speed sensors can be miniaturized and produced at extremely low cost.

摘要： A method and an apparatus for determining the performance of a secondary air charging system for an internal combustion engine in order to determine the amount of secondary air supplied in the secondary air charging system. This is achieved by measuring the heat generated by the compression of the secondary air with temperature sensors. Insofar as the secondary air charging system is powered by a turbine arranged in parallel with the throttle valve in the intake tract, the measured temperature value for the compressor can be compared with a reduction in temperature of the intake air behind the turbine. Reliable information concerning the amount of secondary air supplied can be determined by simple sensors, thereby obviating the need for an air-mass sensor which is expensive to produce and sensitive to contamination.

摘要： A diagnostic equipment for an exhaust gas cleaning apparatus installed for an engine, comprising a misfire detector which detects the misfire of the engine, and a secondary-air-system failure detector which detects the failure of a secondary air system. An index corrector corrects a deterioration index calculated by a deterioration-index calculator, in accordance with the detected result of the detector. A deterioration decision unit decides if the diagnostic equipment has failed, by the use of the corrected deterioration index. In a case where the extent of the misfire or the like is severe, a decision interrupter interrupts the decision of the deterioration decision unit. Thus, even when the misfire of the engine or the failure of the secondary air system has occurred, the detection of the deterioration of a catalyst does not err. It is therefore avoided to erroneously replace the catalyst which has not deteriorated yet, or to run the engine in spite of the deterioration of the catalyst.
