    • An automatic flusher employs an infrared-light-type object sensor to provide an output on the basis of which a control circuit decides whether to flush a toilet. After each pulse of transmitted radiation, the control circuit pushes a new entry onto stack if the resultant percentage of reflected radiation differs significantly from the last, and it includes in that entry's direction field an indication of whether the percentage change was positive or negative. Otherwise, the control circuit increments the existing top entry's duration field. From the numbers of entries in a row having a given direction and the sums of the values in their duration fields, the control circuit determines whether a user has approached the facility and then withdrawn from it, and it operates the flusher's valve accordingly.

    • An integrated valve set for use in a vacuum toilet system is disclosed. The vacuum toilet system includes a waste receptacle defining an outlet and having a rinse fluid nozzle, a source of rinse fluid, and a sewer line placeable under partial vacuum pressure. The integrated valve set comprises a discharge valve having an inlet in fluid communication with the waste receptacle outlet, an outlet in fluid communication with the sewer line, and a rotatable discharge valve member adapted to selectively establish fluid communication between the discharge valve inlet and discharge valve outlet. An integrally mounted rinse fluid valve has an inlet in fluid communication with the pressurized rinse fluid source, an outlet in fluid communication with the rinse fluid nozzle, and a rinse fluid valve member adapted to selectively establish fluid communication between the rinse fluid valve inlet and the rinse fluid valve outlet. An integrally mounted actuator is adapted to rotate the discharge valve member and the rinse fluid valve member. An integrally mounted flush control unit has a circuit board operably connected to the actuator to selectively drive the actuator.

    • A toilet flushing device includes a body which has an inlet and an outlet. There is a valve seat in the body in the flow path between the inlet and the outlet and there is a valve member movable within the body toward and away from the valve seat to control water flow through the flushing device. A handle assembly is mounted on the body for causing movement of the valve member. The handle assembly includes a socket attached to the body and a handle mounted in the socket for pivotal movement relative thereto. A plunger is positioned in part within the socket and is in contact with the handle. Pivotal movement of the handle causes axial movement of the plunger, with a portion of the plunger being positioned for contact with the valve member. There is a spring biasing the plunger toward the handle and there is a bushing attached to the socket and having a central bore within which the plunger moves. A seal slide is mounted on the plunger and is in sliding engagement with the bushing as it moves relative thereto. There is a seal element between the interior of the seal slide and an exterior portion of the bushing.
