    • PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation resulting from the surface pressure at operation by molding and baking the slurry in which materials that are stable for an electrolyte, electron transmission electrode materials, and molding assistant are kneaded and forming an electrode for a fused carbonate type fuel cell. CONSTITUTION:A fused carbonate type fuel cell main body is formed by stacking gas flow path plates 2 and 6, fuel electrode 3, electrolyte layer 4, oxidizing agent electrode 5, separator plate 7, and end plates 1 and 8. In this case, the electrodes 3 and 5 are manufactured by molding the slurry obtained by kneading materials that are stable for an electrolyte in a solid-state and fused state such as lithium aluminate, electron transmission electrode materials such as nickel and copper, and molding assistant such as water and polyvinyl alcohol and baking the slurry within 750-1,100 deg.C. As a result, the deformation resulting from the surface pressure applied at battery operation can be prevented and the increase of the contact resistance between the electrodes and gas flow path plate can be reduced.

    • A manifold seal for a fuel cell system includes a sealing area defined by a peripheral portion of a fuel cell stack of the fuel cell system and a portion of an end plate positioned on the fuel cell stack. The manifold seal includes a manifold frame defining a mating surface which sealingly engages the sealing area. The manifold seal also includes a bracket defining a base portion and having a lip projecting from an edge thereof. The base portion is moveably secured to a face of the end plate so that the edge is positioned on the sealing area. The lip is moveably engaged in and cooperates with a slot formed in the mating surface to seal a gap between the mating surface and the sealing area caused by movement of the fuel cell stack.
