    • A prosthetic heart valve (10) of the type that includes a hollow annular stent (20) and a plurality of flexible leaflets (30a, 30b, 30c) that are attached to the stent. One or more fixture structures (i.e. clips (10Oa)) are used to attach the leaflets to the stent so that sutures do not have to be used for that purpose. The fixture structures preferably extend annularly at least substantially all the way around the valve. Surfaces of the fixture structures that can come into contact with portions of the leaflets that move during use of the valve can be shaped to help beneficially shape those leaflet portions during their movements.

    • An annuloplasty prosthesis (10) is less than a complete ring (e.g., it may be C-shaped or U-shaped). The prosthesis has a structural member (20) that basically gives the prosthesis its shape. The structural member is provided with surface portions that are transverse (22a, 22b) to adjacent portions of the surface of the structural member. At least two of these transverse surface portions are spaced from one another and face toward one another along the length of the structural member. Sutures (30a1, 30a2, 30b1, 30b2) that are used to implant the prosthesis and that are respectively adjacent to these two transverse surface portions are thereby prevented from moving farther apart along the length of the prosthesis.

    • A composite matrix has a first layer and a second layer. The first layer includes at least about 5 dry weight percent flexibility modifying agent. The second layer includes at least about 5 dry weight percent less flexibility modifying agent than the first layer. A valved prosthesis with flexible leaflets supported by a wall can be formed from the composite materials. In some embodiments, the wall of the prosthesis includes a first layer with at least about 60 weight percent collagen and a second layer with at least about 25 weight percent collagen and at least about 5 weight percent elastin. The leaflets preferably include a first layer with at least about 60 weight percent collagen and a second layer with at least about 25 weight percent collagen and at least about 5 weight percent proteoglycans.

    • Valved prostheses include a support structure (108) and a plurality of flexible polymer leaflets (107, 104, 106) connected to the support structure, in which the leaflets have an improved structural design. The support structure has a plurality of commissure supports (114, 116, 118) and scallops (120, 122, 124) between the commissure supports. Generally, the flexible polymer leaflets project away from the support structure at an attachment edge (A) where the leaflets connect to the support structure. In particular embodiments, the leaflets at the attachment edge are at an angle from about 5 degrees to about 85 degrees relative to a plane normal to the valve axis. In some embodiments, the flexible polymer leaflets having a coaptation depth (D) from about 0.3 times the valve radius (R) to about 0.8 times the valve radius (R). In further embodiments, the flexible polymer leaflets form a valve with a valve height (H) from about one times the valve radius (R) to about 2 'times the valve radius (R) and have leaflet lengths (L) at least about 1 millimeter greater than the valve radius (R).
