    • PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal oriented film having an excellent liquid crystal orientation characteristic by means of simple constitution by arranging a liquid crystal oriented film in the position in which plural diffraction wavefronts from a phase grating arranged on an optical path of a laser beam overlap with each other and forming a fine surface rugged structure on the liquid crystal oriented film according to an interference light intensity distribution formed by the plural diffraction wavefronts. CONSTITUTION: A repeating frequency of a laser oscillator 101 is controlled by means of a pulse driver 102. An outgoing beam 103 is expanded to a parallel pencil of rays by means of an expander coillimator 104 so as to be incident on a phase grating 106. The phase grating 106 generates two diffraction wavefronts having approximately equal amplitudes from one incident wavefront. Two diffraction wavefronts passing through the phase grating 106 interfere with each other, and interference fringes 110 are formed on the surface of an oriented film 107 held on a movable stage 109. According to the interference fringes 110, a cyclic rugged structure whose cycle is approximately equal to a cycle of the interference fringes 110 can be provided on the surface of the orientated film 107.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a high purity and excellent reproducibility of colors, to use highly reliable and inexpensive dyes and pigments for a color filter, to improve reliability of a color display device, and to decrease the cost by using such a light source that has emission peaks in the main wavelength region corresponding to the transmission spectrum of the color filter. CONSTITUTION:The color display device consists of the plural number of optical shutters 2 to control the quantity of transmitting light, color filter 1 having three color elements of red, green and blue, and light source 3. The light source 3 is a single white light source having synthesized emission characteristics of each monochromatic light for three colors. The spectral characteristics of the light source coincide with the peak wavelength in the transmission wavelength region of each color element and are in narrower ranges. The area of a triangle formed in a color coordinate by the transmitted light 4 of three colors through the color filter 1 is larger than the area of a triangle showing the transmission characteristics of the color filter 1. By using a three-wavelength light-emission fluorescent tube, three primary colors with high color purity are observed.

    • PURPOSE:To make a dot noise and color slippage inconspicuous by making an optical filter a phase type diffraction grating and arranging an optical lens system canceling the generated chromatic aberration between the filter and an observer in a device provided with a dot matrix color display body and the optical filter. CONSTITUTION:A phase type diffraction grating is used as an optical diffraction grating filter 103. Thus, the diffraction image of dots of a display body 102 is generated and a light shielding part is interpolated by means of the diffraction image. However, the MTF (modulation transfer function) of the filter 103 is changed depending upon the wavelength. Then. an optical lens system 104 having the prescribed chromatic aberration is arranged between the filter 103 and an observer and the wavelength dependency of the MTF of the filter 103 is compensated. The lens system 104 includes a lens group 201 having a negative power and a lens group 202 having a positive power. By giving chromatic aberration to the lens groups 201, 202 so that the condition for canceling the change of the whole MTF for wavelengths is satisfied, the color slippage is canceled to the extent that no practical problem arises.

The liquid crystal display body 202 is lighted by a back light 201 and light which is transmitted through the liquid crystal display body 202 reaches the observer 205 through the phase structure body 203 and a lens 204. In this case, the observer 205 views a virtual image of a liquid crystal display image at a clear vision position through the operation of the lens 204. The liquid crystal display body 202 is a TFT(thin film transistor) drive type color liquid crystal display body. Thus, the phase structure body 203 composed of plural phase distributions is used as an optical band-pass filter.

    • PURPOSE:To make dot arrangement and dot detect in a display body inconspicuous with a simple means by using an optical phase filter and eliminating dot noise and dot defect. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal display body 102 is lighted by a back light 101. Light passing through the liquid crystal display body 102 arrives at an observer 105 through a lens 103, and the observer 105 observes a virtual image of a liquid crystal display image at a position of distinct vision by the action of the lens 103. The liquid crystal display body 102 is a color liquid crystal display body in a thin film transistor driving system. Then, a phase type diffraction grating 104 is formed on the surface of the lens 103, and e.g. a surface releaf type diffraction grating is used therefor. The phase type diffraction grating 104 functions as an optical low-pass filter. That is, it is designed and arranged so that a duplicated image for each dot is generated, and by the duplicated image, a joint (light shielding part) between the dots is interpolated.
