    • PURPOSE:To attain the low-loss connection of optical fibers and the extremely stable reproducibility of attachment and detachment by providing guide pin holes for insertion of guide pins to inscribe guide pin grooves of a positioning member onto these guide pin grooves and constituting the circumference of the guide pin holes of a material having the Young's modulus smaller than the Young's modulus of the optical fiber positioning member. CONSTITUTION:The guide pin grooves 13 of the positioning member 1 are formed thereon with the guide pin holes 2 in the form of inscribing these grooves and the circumference of the guide pin holes 2 is constituted of the material having the Young's modulus lower than the Young's modulus of the positioning member 1, for example, such a molding resin as thermosetting epoxy resin. The guide pin holes 2 are deformed from A to B while the state of inscribing the guide pin V-grooves 13 of the positioning members 1 even if the diameter of the guide pins are slightly larger than the guide pin holes 2 in this case. The pitch of the guide pins to be inserted remains stable at all times in this way and the direction of the eccentricity by the deformation of the guide pin holes 2 is always kept in the specified direction and, therefore, the stable connection with the less fluctuation in the attachment and detachment is executed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector in which ferrules come into contact with each other on the face without inclining and in which optical fibers are fully in contact with each other so that connection loss is reduced. SOLUTION: The optical connector 6 is constituted such that it has a ferrule 1, a spacer 2 and a spring 4 and that the spring 4 pressurizes the ferrule 1 via the spacer 2. The area having the maximum cross section, when the spacer 2 is cut with a plane vertical to the optical fiber 10, is the area other than the part where the spacer 2 is in contact with the ferrule 1; therefore, this contact area of the spacer 2 with the ferrule 1 is narrowed toward the center of the cross section, compared with the area with the maximum cross section. By so designing the spacer 2, the ferrule 1 at its rear end is cleared into space around the spacer 2 and, at its tip, is brought into contact with the opposite ferrule on the face. Thus, the optical fibers 10, which are fixedly positioned at the tip face, are fully in physical contact with each other.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an optical fiber array reduced in optical fiber array pitch by a simple method. SOLUTION: This optical fiber array is constituted by making the V-groove side front end face of a substrate 1 having an optical fiber stage 1a and coated optical fiber ribbon stage 1b arrayed with a plurality of the V-grooves 1c and the front end faces of the optical fibers 4a, 4b exposed by removing coatings at the terminals of two sheets of coated optical fiber ribbons 3a, 3b flush with each other, alternately inserting the front ends of the optical fibers of two sheets of the coated optical fiber ribbon into the V-grooves and pressing and fixing the surfaces of the optical fibers with a cap member 2. In such a case, the portions having the coatings of two sheets of the coated optical fiber ribbon are superposed on each other in the state of offsetting in the transverse direction of the ribbons on at least the coated optical fiber ribbon stage 1b of the substrate and near the same. A spacer 5 for preventing the flow of the adhesives is inserted between the coated optical fiber ribbons 3a and 3b of part in the longitudinal direction of two sheets of the coated optical fiber ribbons superposed on each other. The optical fibers and the coated optical fiber ribbon are fixed and protected by adhesives 6 from the edges of the cap member 2 to the portions of the coatings of the coated optical fiber ribbons.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a manufacturing cost by forming a ferrule member in which the optical connector side of a fiber array and optical fibers are integrated and at the same time forming guide pin holes for performing the aligning of optical axes at the time of connecting the ferrule member to an optical connector to reduce manufacturing processes. SOLUTION: A ferrule member 7 in which the other end side (optical connector B side) of a fiber array 3 and optical fibers 2 are integrated is formed by covering one end side (optical element A side) of the fiber array 3 with a protective sleeve 4 and by performing an insert molding making the fiber array 3 an insertion component. Moreover, at the same time, guide pin holes 7A for performing the aligning of optical axes at the time of connecting the ferrule member 7 to the optical connector B are formed by the insert molding. Thus, since the ferrule member 7 is formed and, at the same time, the optical fibers 2 are positioned with respect to the ferrule member 7 to be fixed and the guide pin holes are also formed simultaneously, manufacturing processes can be reduced.
