SOLUTION: In coil electrodes 12, 22, the extending direction of a circular part 12c (22c) and the connecting position of the base end of an arm part 12b (22b) to a base part 12a (22a) are set so as to be opposite to each other to the center of the base part 12a (22as). In the state where the coil electrode 12 of fixed electrode and the coil electrode 22 of movable electrode are mutually laminated, the clearance area A formed between each arm part 12b of the coil electrode 12 and each arm part 22b of the coil electrode 22 is significantly contracted. Thus, the clearance area A with weak magnetic field intensity can be minimized, and the magnetic field intensity distribution can be uniformarized by that to effectively extend the arc, so that the arc can be diffused over a wide area of a contact member.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a breaking condition so that an arc can be safely and reliably extinguished by avoiding inconvenience such as dielectric breakdown apt to be caused in the future. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a physical phenomenon measuring means to measure a physical phenomenon of an arc extinguishing space in a transitional condition between an insulating condition and an electrically continuous condition of an electric current passage, a breaking condition anticipating means to anticipate a future condition of the arc-extinguishing space from a measured value of the physical phenomenon measuring means and a breaking condition control means 3 to control a condition of the arc-extinguishing space on the basis of an anticipated result of the anticipating means. The physical phenomenon measuring means is at least one among a condition quantity of an arc of the arc-extinguishing space, a condition quantity of a gas flow of the arc-extinguishing space, a condition quantity of a part arranged in the arc-extinguishing space, the composition of a substance existing in the arc-extinguishing space and an operation quantity of the part arranged in the arc-extinguishing space. The breaking condition anticipating means anticipates a grounding accident or dielectric breakdown in the arc-extinguishing space or operational failure of the part arranged in the arc-extinguishing space.
