    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the white balance of a liquid crystal display device having transparent (W) sub-pixels. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 100 includes a pair of substrates between which a liquid crystal layer 4 is held. The liquid crystal layer 4 differs in cell thickness by sub-pixels SG of respective colors. A single display pixel AG is constituted of four sub-pixels SG of R, G, and B, and W (non-colored). The retardation values of the R, G, and B sub-pixels SG are set in the ranges of 360 nm≤R≤700 nm, 340 nm≤G≤600 nm, and 340 nm≤B≤500 nm, respectively. In the liquid crystal display device 100, the sub-pixel SG of W has a cell thickness, at which the displayed pixel AG becomes a predetermined white balance.
