    • Closed-cell and/or open-cell cellular perfluoroelastomeric materials are described which may be adapted for use in sealing members and laminates which improve low temperature elastomeric properties of perfluoroelastomeric materials. A variety of unique medical devices based on cellular and solid perfluoroelastomers are also described. The closed-cell cellular perfluoroelastomers are formed by combining a perfluoroelastomeric composition and a curing agent with a plurality of microspheres and/or a gas generating agent at a temperature high enough to soften the perfluoroelastomeric composition, but not high enough to expand the microspheres or activate the gas generating agent and then further heating the composition, microspheres and/or gas generating agents to cure the elastomer, expand the microspheres and/or activate the gas generating agent. Open-cell cellular perfluoroelastomers are formed by combining a perfluoroelastomeric composition, a curing agent and a pore forming agent in solvent, at least partially removing the solvent, curing the perfluoroelastomeric composition and removing the pore forming agent.

    • Methods of manufacturing an electrical connector for use in a downhole tool are described. The methods include placing or molding a dielectric body around a conductor, thereby forming an electrical connector. The dielectric body is composed of a composition, which itself contains a polyetherketoneketone or a derivative of polyetherketoneketone. The placement of the dielectric body around the conductor can be accomplished by molding the body around the conductor, for example, by molding techniques such as extrusion, injection molding, pressure molding, compression molding, and casting. An electrical connector for use in a downhole tool is also provided. The electrical connector contains a dielectric body and a conductor. The dielectric body includes a composition, which itself is composed of a polyetherketoneketone or a derivative of a polyetherketoneketone. The electrical connector of the invention is adapted for use in a downhole tool.

    • A monitoring system for monitoring a parameter of a hostile environment is provided within the interior of a sealed chamber. The chamber has a wall and an access port extending through the wall to the chamber exterior. The monitoring system includes a flexible, generally tubular, elongated housing having a distal end, a proximal end and a interior. The housing is made of a non-porous, corrosive resistant material. The distal end of the housing includes a sealed window and a sensor, which may be a borescope or camera, for sensing a parameter or for capturing an image within the hostile environment. The proximal end of the housing is sealingly secured to the chamber wall at the port so that the interior of the housing is accessible through the port. The interior of the housing includes a transmission media for transmitting an output signal of the sensor from the distal end of the housing to the proximal end of the housing and through the port. A monitor located outside of the chamber and connected to the transmission media receives and displays a representation of the sensor signal.

    • Molded articles are described herein having a surface feature thereon, the articles being formed so as to include a polymeric composite material having reinforcing fibers in a polymeric matrix material. The surface feature(s) is created during heat molding of the polymeric composite material to form the article and the surface feature(s) include the polymeric matrix material and the reinforcing fibers therein. A method is also described which provides surface feature(s) to a molded article by providing a composite material as noted, placing the composite material in a mold for forming an article having a surface feature thereon, and molding the composite material using bladder inflation molding and pushing the reinforcing fibers into the surface feature of the molded article during molding using a heat molding process having a bladder inflation molding step, wherein the surface feature is created during the molding of the polymeric composite material to form the molded article and the reinforcing fibers are present in the polymeric matrix material defining the surface feature in the molded article.
