    • In an additional writing format optical disk library unit or the like, the processing for automatically reorganizing a volume is carried out effectively so as to intend to reuse media. Whether the number of residual blank media surfaces in a volume is small is judged. If the number is small, media surfaces each having a low data valid rate are extracted from the volume. Valid data on the extracted media surfaces is written and added to a medium surface which is currently set as a writing target, so that data relocation is carried out. Media surfaces occupied only by invalid areas are deregistered from the volume. Further, the media surfaces deregistered from the volume are formatted. The formatted media surfaces are re-registered into the volume.

    • An optical head is provided, which suppresses the offset in the tracking error signal. This head comprises (a) a light source for emitting a light beam to be irradiated to an optical recording medium as an incident light beam; (b) a hologram element for receiving a reflected light beam generated by reflection of the incident light beam on the medium to generate at least two diffracted light beams for focusing error detection and at least two diffracted light beams for tracking error detection; and (c) an optical detector for detecting the at lease two diffracted light beams for focusing error detection and the at least two diffracted light beams for tracking error detection; the detector including a first receiving surface for receiving the at least two diffracted light beams for focusing error detection and a second detection surface for receiving the at least two diffracted light beams for tracking error detection; each of the first and second receiving surfaces being divided into receiving regions; the at least two diffracted light beams for focusing error detection being received at the receiving regions of the first receiving surface; the at least two diffracted light beams for tracking error detection being received at the receiving regions of the second receiving surface.

    • When hydroforming a steel pipe, a tubular deformation assisting member made of an incompressible material softer than the steel pipe is fitted on the outer peripheral surface of the steel pipe. The deformation assisting member is attached at least to an area corresponding to a projection provided at the inner surface of the die assembly, the projection being earliest brought into contact with the outer peripheral surface of the steel pipe during hydroforming. When hydroforming the steel pipe, the material of the deformation assisting member plastically flows near corner portions at which the deformation assisting member is brought into contact with the projection.

    • An optical information recording/reproducing apparatus enabling fine actuation of almost several nm order for performing the tracking correction includes a pair of fixed electrodes so as to put a probe therebetween in a direction perpendicular to the direction of data row arrangement on a recording medium and a voltage applying medium for applying the voltage between the respective fixed electrodes and the probe. The position of the tip end of the probe is controlled by the action of electrostatic attractive force between the fixed electrodes and the probe caused by applying the voltage thereacross. The probe is constructed with center core clad therearound. The base part is fixed and the sharpened tip end is free, as a so-called cantilever structure. The apparatus further enables to obtain the tracking error. Laser light is emitted from the tip end and radiated onto the information recording medium. The light reflected on the recording medium is converted optoelectrically. The average value of the electric signal is outputted as the tracking error signal. An information recording/reproducing apparatus capable of improving the stability of the control voltage for tracking the probe includes control voltages and bias voltage applying members respectively independent from each other.
