    • A data signal line drive circuit is provided with first sampling portions, and second sampling portions operated at a lower speed. By the action of selection circuits, the first sampling portions are operated during a normal display mode, and the second sampling portions are operated during a partial display mode. To ensure a correct sampling operation, one line time and a sampling interval are rendered longer during a display period of the partial display mode than during the normal display mode. During the normal display mode, both the first sampling portions and the second sampling portions may be operated. Thus, power consumption of a liquid crystal display device during the partial display is reduced.

    • A driving device of a display device includes: a data signal line driving circuit, provided with a shift register having a level shifter for boosting a source clock signal so as to apply the source clock signal to a flip-flop, which causes a sampling circuit to directly sample a multi-gradation data signal based on each output from the shift register so as to output the multi-gradation data signal to each of a plurality of data signal lines; a control circuit for switching a full-screen display mode in which a whole of the display screen performs display and a partial-screen display mode in which only a part of the display screen performs time-sharing display; a data generating section for generating a constant voltage data writing signal made of a constant voltage; and a control circuit for outputting a selection signal for causing a nondisplay portion to directly sample the constant voltage data writing signal from the constant voltage data writing signal generation means so as to output the constant voltage data writing signal to a plurality of data signal lines. This makes it possible to provide a driving device of a display device, a display device, and a driving method of a display device, all of which make it possible to reduce power consumption in a waiting state.

    • A driver circuit for a display device includes a plurality of set-reset flip-flops and switch circuits, and is arranged so that a timing pulse for sampling outputted from the flip-flop is supplied to the switch circuit, so as to cause the switch circuit to receive a clock signal. The clock signal operates as a set signal of the next stage flip-flop and outputted as a control signal for carrying out pre-charging of a data signal line and a selected pixel connected to the data signal line, with a switch. Thus, in case of performing pre-charging of a signal supplying line with an internal pre-charging circuit by using a pre-charging power source having small driving ability, this arrangement can provide a driver circuit for a display device capable of preventing fluctuation of a signal supplied to a different signal supplying line, while keeping the circuit scale of the shift register small.

    • A driving device of a display device includes: a data signal line driving circuit including a shift register which has (i) multiple stages of flip-flops each of which operates in synchronism with a source clock signal and (ii) a level shifter for boosting the source clock signal whose amplitude is smaller than a driving voltage of each of the flip-flops so as to apply the driving voltage to the flip-flop, said data signal line driving circuit causing a sampling circuit to sample the image display data signal based on an output from the shift register so as to output the image display data signal to the data signal line; and control means for causing a frequency of the source clock signal in case of displaying an image to be higher than a frequency of the source clock signal in case of normal display in which multi-gradation display is performed in a full-color mode. Thus, it is possible to provide a driving device of a display device, a display device, and a driving method of the display device, whereby it is possible to reduce power consumption caused by an invalid current of the level shifter.

    • A driver circuit for a display device includes NOR circuits on the input side of switches for controlling precharge of data signal lines and selected pixels connected to the data signal lines. While a video signal is written onto a data signal line, a signal instructing precharge of another data signal line is inputted from a shift register to the NOR circuits. A simultaneous precharge instruction signal is inputted from outside to the NOR circuits. According to this arrangement, precharge is performed in both a period in which a video signal is supplied to a data signal line and a period in which no video signal is supplied to any of the data signal lines. As a result, it is possible to perform precharge even with a precharge power source having relatively low driving capability, and to precharge the signal supply lines of the display device sufficiently.

    • An image display device of this invention includes a pre-charging voltage stabilizing section having current controlling means and charge holding means which respectively include a resistor and a capacitor to stabilize a pre-charging voltage. The charge holding means holds a voltage to be supplied to data signal lines, and the current controlling means suppresses a current flow from a control signal generating circuit, thereby suppressing power fluctuation at the control signal generating circuit. This suppresses fluctuation in the pre-charging voltage and enables data signal lines to be charged to a predetermined voltage, thereby suppressing deterioration of image quality and an increase in power consumption of the image display device. Further, when using the pre-charging voltage stabilizing section and setting a portion of a display as a video data non-display area avoiding display of video data in a non-match image display mode to display at fixed brightness in the video data non-display area by a pre-charging voltage from a pre-charging circuit, a control signal is suspended in a fixed period, thus realizing a non-match image display mode to display a video image of an aspect ratio different from that of a screen of a display without impairing an image quality, and saving power.
