    • An in-line cord ground fault circuit interrupter has a tripping relay whose various components are an integral part of the GFCI housing, instead of being self-contained. The front cover of the housing has the necessary bosses, guide slots, and screw holes for mounting of all the mechanical and electrical elements of the relay. The rear cover serves as a water resistant enclosure and holds the relay elements in position across the width of the housing. The relay's movable contact arms are attached directly to the printed circuit board of the GFCI. The relay armature is located by ribs on the front cover and is trapped in position when the relay coil and frame assembly is pushed over it using guide slots in the front cover. The armature has integral arms extending to each side wherein each arm has an actuating cam on its end. Gripping ribs and strain relief ribs are placed at the cord entrances to the housing with a chamber formed therebetween. The cord grips support the cords while the strain relief prevents forces applied to the cords outside of the enclosure being applied to the joints within the enclosure while a sealant placed in the chambers provides an environmental seal.

    • There is provided a pair of tongs for grasping items, particularly food from a grill or griddle. Prongs are sized and space to fit between gaps in the cooking surface to slide under the food. The spacing may be adjustable to size the tongs for different sizes of grill/griddle spacing. For example, mounting ends of the prongs are coupled for rotation within an end of an arm. Gears between the prongs permit the turning of one prong when the other is rotated. The rotation adjusts the relative spacing between parallel elongate portions of the tongs. The spacing adjustment allows the prongs to fit grills with different size spacing.

    • A circuit interrupter includes a current transformer, phase conductor and neutral conductor. The phase conductor and the neutral conductor are each configured to pass through the transformer from line side to load side that are defined by the current transformer. The circuit interrupter generates a continuous test current by continuous current imbalance established between the load side of the phase conductor and the line side of the neutral conductor, or between the line side of the phase conductor and the load side of the neutral conductor. A continuous test conductor may be coupled correspondingly to establish the current imbalance. Alternatively, an integrated circuit coupled correspondingly receives power and is energized by a quiescent current thereby. The current imbalance is established by the quiescent current. The current transformer detects the quiescent current as the continuous test current. Corresponding methods are also disclosed.

    • In a computing platform, a trusted hardware device (24) is added to the motherboard (20). The trusted hardware device (24) is configured to acquire an integrity metric, for example a hash of the BIOS memory (29), of the computing platform. The trusted hardware device (24) is tamper-resistant, difficult to forge and inaccessible to other functions of the platform. The hash can be used to convince users that that the operation of the platform (hardware or software) has not been subverted in some way, and is safe to interact with in local or remote applications.In more detail, the main processing unit (21) of the computing platform is directed to address the trusted hardware device (24), in advance of the BIOS memory, after release from ‘reset’. The trusted hardware device (24) is configured to receive memory read signals from the main processing unit (21) and, in response, return instructions, in the native language of the main processing unit (21), that instruct the main processing unit to establish the hash and return the value to be stored by the trusted hardware device (24). Since the hash is calculated in advance of any other system operations, this is a relatively strong method of verifying the integrity of the system. Once the hash has been returned, the final instruction calls the BIOS program and the system boot procedure continues as normal.Whenever a user wishes to interact with the computing platform, he first requests the integrity metric, which he compares with an authentic integrity metric that was measured by a trusted party. If the metrics are the same, the platform is verified and interactions can continue. Otherwise, interaction halts on the basis that the operation of the platform may have been subverted.
