    • An apparatus for automatically tightening a tapped member such as a nut are disclosed. A socket of an open end air wrench mounted on a nut tightening robot is coupled with the tapped member. The robot rotates the socket in a first direction, i.e., a tightening direction, to a first relatively small torque, and subsequently rotates the socket in a second direction opposite to the first direction to a predetermined position, i.e., a central receptive position after the socket being disengaged from the tapped member. A rotary encoder is provided to generate pulses in response to the rotation of the socket in the second rotational direction. An angle of rotation of this rotation of the socket in the second direction is detected by counting the number of pulses generated by the encoder. In response to the angle of rotation detected, a torque wrench is coupled with the tapped member and the robot rotates the torque wrench in the tightening direction to a second relatively greater torque than the first predetermined torque.

    • A throttle control apparatus for an internal combustion engine for a motor cycle, comprising a manually operated rotatable throttle actuating grip member, a first linkage cable for providing driving connection selectively in one of two opposite directions from the grip member to the engine throttle valve, a control circuit for producing a control signal when actuated, drive means responsive to the control signal for producing a driving force in one direction, a throttle regulator unit for providing driving connection from the drive means to the throttle valve, and a second linkage cable for transmitting the driving force to the throttle regulator unit. One of the first and second linkage cables is operative to produce a mechanical stress such as typically a lengthwise compressive force therein with the throttle actuating grip member manually operated to provide driving connection to the throttle valve in one of the aforesaid opposite directions through the first linkage cable, wherein a switch device is provided which includes a movable member movable in response to the mechanical stress for producing a signal effective to disable the control signal from the control circuit.

    • A propulsion-jack driven pipe laying system including a pilot head having a cutter mounted at the leading end thereof and a propulsion-jack mounted in a pit behind the pilot head for propelling the same into the underground. The system further includes a water supply pipe and a slurry discharge pipe both mounted to the pilot head. Earth and sand excavated by the cutter is introduced into a receiving chamber where it is mixed with water supplied through the water pipe and converted into a slurry and the slurry is discharged through the slurry discharge pipe.In one embodiment, a flowmeter is disposed in a slurry conduit connected with the slurry discharge pipe for detecting flow rate of the slurry and controlling the restriction rate of a valve disposed in the slurry conduit. In another embodiment, a differential pressure detector is mounted within underground pressure at the cutter and a pressure in the receiving chamber and controlling the restriction rate of a valve disposed in the slurry circuit.
