    • Provided is a temperature sensitive actuator attaching structure wherein the ease of attachment is improved. A heat generating element (51) generates heat by energizing a temperature sensitive actuator (2) via conducting terminals (41, 42). The generated heat expands a wax (W) to project a piston (21), and an elastic member (23) biases the piston (21) in a direction opposite to the projecting direction. In order to attach the temperature sensitive actuator (2) to an attachment portion (11) of an object member (1), fixing protrusions (41a) are provided in the conducting terminal (41) of the temperature sensitive actuator (2), and receiving portions (14) which can receive the fixing protrusions (41a) in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the piston (21) are provided in the attachment portion (11). The temperature sensitive actuator (2) is attached to the object member (1) by inserting the fixing protrusions (41a) into the receiving portions (14).

    • A carburetor throttle valve actuation assembly for a combustion engine is readily adapted for use as a remote control actuator, a local control throttle actuator, or both together providing an optional choice for the end user. The carburetor has a throttle valve having a shaft journaled to a body for movement about a rotation axis. A slave lever connects rigidly to a distal end of the shaft projecting outward from the body. A connection spaced radially outward from the axis engages the slave lever to a radially projecting swivel member of a local, manually operated, throttle valve actuation assembly. The swivel member rotates in unison with the slave lever about the axis, is spaced axially outward from the shaft and is journaled to a bracket engaged rigidly to the body. Preferably, the connection has a hole in the slave lever. If the remote throttle control actuator is used, a Bowden wire engages to a pin projecting axially outward from the slave lever at the hole. If the local throttle control actuator is used either a cylindrical void carried by the swivel member mates to the pin, or a peg projecting outward from the swivel member and toward the body is inserted into the hole forming the connection that permits axial movement of the slave lever with respect to the swivel member.

    • The air-fuel mixture produced by a carburetor is controlled by an apparatus that includes a choke valve located in a passage of the carburetor. A solenoid with a moveable plunger rod coupled to move the choke valve between extreme open and closed positions, and having a stop fixed to the plunger rod. A bimetallic element changes shape in response to changes in temperature, wherein below a given temperature the bimetallic element engages the stop thereby restricting movement of the plunger rod and preventing the choke valve from reaching the extreme open position. Above the given temperature the bimetallic element changes shape to avoid engaging the stop thereby allowing the choke valve to reach the extreme open position. A foil electric heater is mounted on a surface of the bimetallic element to match the shape of the element to the desired performance characteristic of the engine.

    • A fuel supply system for an automotive engine has a heater which is energized, deenergized and then reenergized in sequence to heat a thermostat metal coil spring over a selected temperature range to regulate opening of a carburetor choke during engine warm up. The heater operation causes the choke to start to open quickly to enhance fuel economy, then to open more slowly to enhance engine driveability as engine warm up occurs, and finally to complete opening in a rapid fashion to enhance fuel economy when engine driveability is assured after engine warm up has taken place. Contacts are connected between a power source and the heater and a pair of dished bimetal elements having central apertures therein are arranged in facing relation to each other between the contacts, the bimetal elements being adapted to move to inverted dished configuration as they are heated to respective different temperatures within the noted temperature range. The contacts are engaged with each other through the element apertures when engine operation is initiated, are separated when one of the elements moves to its inverted configuration in response to heating of the element, and are then reengaged as the second element moves to its inverted configuration in response to further heating.

    • An electronic control system for a carburetor of an internal combustion engine having an induction passage, engine cooling water and a device supplies an air-fuel mixture to the induction passage. A converter converts the temperature of the engine cooling water to a first voltage signal. A choke valve is disposed in the induction passage and a bimetal actuates the choke valve. A positive temperature coefficient heater heats the bimetal. A heater circuit produces a second voltage signal dependent on the resistance of the positive temperature coefficient heater. An air-fuel ratio controller controls the air-fuel ratio of the mixture supplied by the air-fuel mixture supply device. A calculating circuit combines the voltage signals from the converter and the heater circuit respectively and produces an electronic control for controlling the air-fuel ratio control. The electronic control is responsive to the output electric signals of the calculating circuit such that the air-fuel ratio is controlled to a value providing satisfactory cold engine operating performance.

    • In an internal combustion engine having an air intake passage containing a throttle valve, and provided with passages to the outside from points upstream and downstream of the throttle valve, an auxiliary air regulator comprising a mounting block within which is formed a bypass passage, one end of which is matably connected with a passage in said air intake passage upstream of the throttle valve, and the other end of which is matably connected with a passage in said air intake passage downstream of the throttle valve. A movable shutter means is disposed within said bypass passage so as to control the effective cross-sectional area of said bypass passage. A bimetallic coil is enclosed within an air tight chamber annd being selectively heated. Engaging means connects the outer end of said bimetallic coil with said shutter means so that a movement of the bimetallic coil in response to a temperature change is transmitted mechanically to the shutter means. The auxiliary air regulator is directly attached to the air intake passage.

    • An automatic choke system of modular construction has self-regulating heaters arranged to heat a thermostatic spring to adjust a choke valve during start-up of an automotive engine. Heat storing and transferring means are located between the heaters and spring to provide heat-transfer paths of different lengths between the respective heaters and the spring for providing the thermostatic spring with non-linear heat up to improve the smoothness of initial engine operation while also minimizing the period of fuel-enriched operation during start-up. The same heat storing and transferring means is also provided with a large heat storing capacity for continuing to transfer heat to the spring after termination of engine operation to prevent any substantial fuel enrichment by the choke system if the engine should be restarted before selected portions of the engine cool below selected fuel vaporizing temperatures.
