    • The invention relates to a motor vehicle brake system comprising at least one first and at least one second electromechanical wheel brake (10), each of which is provided with an electric actuator generating an actuation force and a device self-energizing the actuation force that is generated by the actuator in order to press a friction element against a rotatable component (14) of the wheel brake (10), which is to be braked. Each self-energizing device is provided with a wedge (18) which rests against a corresponding abutment (22) and comprises at least one wedge surface (20, 20') that is arranged at an angle of inclination (a). In order to create a parking brake function, the self-energizing device of the first wheel brake is provided with at least one wedge surface (20) which is used for augmenting the force applied during braking while driving forward, and the self-energizing device of the second wheel brake is provided with at least one wedge surface (20') which is used for augmenting the force applied during braking while driving backward. In several embodiments, the angle of inclination (a) is selected such that the wheel brakes (10) are self-locking at least with normally prevailing coefficients of friction (µ). In the parking brake function, the friction element of the first wheel brake is tensed against the component of the wheel brake (10), which is to be braked, by means of the wedge surface (20) that is used for augmenting the force applied during braking while driving forward whereas the friction element of the second wheel brake is tensed against the component of the wheel brake (10), which is to be braked, by means of the wedge surface (20') that is used for augmenting the force applied during braking while driving backward. The invention also relates to an electromechanical brake for such a motor vehicle brake system.
