    • A nozzle system is provided for an injection molding machine. The nozzle system includes a nozzle tip that is removably connected to a nozzle body with a sealing and mounting sleeve element. The nozzle body includes a first connector for releasably connecting with a second connector defined on the sleeve. The sleeve element further includes an alignment bearing for engaging a bearing surface defined on the nozzle body for precisely locating the nozzle tip within the nozzle body along on a predetermined axis. Further embodiments of the invention provide a valve pin disposed in the nozzle body and nozzle tip. The valve pin includes a bearing surface for engaging a guiding surface defined on the second melt channel for aligning the end of the valve pin with a mold gate. Further embodiments also provide an integrally connected nozzle tip and sleeve element.

    • According to the present invention, a nozzle cap is provided which has a housing end that threadedly engages the nozzle housing to secure the nozzle tip to the nozzle housing. The remainder of the cap substantially fills the space between the nozzle tip and the gate insert while maintaining a small clearance between the cap and both the nozzle tip and the gate insert in the region surrounding an outlet end of the nozzle. The clearance prevents direct conductive heat transfer from the outlet end of the nozzle tip to the gate insert yet is sufficiently small enough to substantially eliminate melt to flow past it.

The variable inputs include at least a first value indicative of a first fluid flow rate downstream of the injection unit leading to or through a first injection port and a second value indicative of a second fluid flow rate downstream of the injection unit leading to or through a second injection port.

    • In an injection molding machine, an apparatus for controlling delivery of a fluid material to mold cavities of selectively variable size, shape, volume or configuration, the apparatus comprising a modular mold mounting mechanism having mounting apertures for receiving first and second molds having first and second mold cavities of different size, shape, volume or configuration, the mounting apertures being adapted for ready insertion and ready removal of the first and second molds; a manifold into which fluid material is injected, the manifold having first and second fluid delivery channels through which the fluid material is injected, one channel having an exit aperture communicating with a gate to the cavity of one mold, the other channel having an exit aperture communicating with a gate to the cavity of the other mold; each channel being associated with a drive mechanism which is interconnected to and controls operation of a fluid flow controller which varies flow of the fluid material through an associated channel; a sensor for sensing a selected condition of the fluid material being injected through at least one of the channels or at least one of the mold cavities; and a controller interconnected to each drive mechanism, the controller comprising a computer interconnected to a sensor which receives a signal representative of the selected condition sensed by the sensor, the computer including an algorithm utilizing a value corresponding to a signal received from the sensor as a variable for controlling operation of at least the drive mechanism associated with the at least one channel.

    • A nozzle for an injection molding apparatus is provided. The nozzle includes a nozzle body, a heater and a first gap seal surface. The nozzle body defines a nozzle body melt passage, that is adapted to be downstream from and in fluid communication with a melt source, and upstream from and in fluid communication with a gate into a mold cavity in a mold component. The heater is thermally connected to the nozzle body for heating melt in the nozzle body melt passage. The first gap seal surface is positioned on a structure that is connected at least indirectly to the nozzle body. The first gap seal surface is adapted to be separated by a gap with respect to a second gap seal surface on the mold component. The gap is sized to inhibit the flow of melt between the first gap seal surface and the second gap seal surface.
