摘要： An embodiment of a fluid infusion device includes a fluid pump mechanism having a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a reference surface and a cam element rising from the reference surface. The stator includes a cam element having a stator cam surface. The cam elements cooperate to axially displace the rotor as a function of rotation. A biasing element provides force to urge the cam elements together. A drive motor is coupled to actuate the rotor to pump medication fluid from a fluid cartridge module to a body, via a subcutaneous conduit. A force sensor is coupled to the rotor to generate output levels in response to force imparted thereto. The force sensor cooperates with a detection circuit that obtains and processes the output levels to detect occlusions in a fluid path downstream of the fluid pump mechanism.

Such an occlusion may occur, for example, when the fluid flow line (e.g., a cannula, infusion set tubing, or the like) is kinked. If the medicine dispensation path to the user is occluded, the user may receive no dosage or a lower dosage of the medicine. As such, the occlusion sensor can be used to indicate when the fluid is flowing or not flowing, thereby permitting the infusion pump system to communicate an alarm to the user if an occlusion exists.

摘要： In an infusion pump operable to deliver fluid to a patient at a programmed therapy flow rate, air-in-line sensing is improved by commanding the pumping mechanism to deliver a bolus volume of fluid at a flow rate higher than the therapy flow rate when an uninterrupted volume of air is detected that exceeds a first threshold. In many cases, the bolus will be effective to clear microbubbles from an observation zone of the air-in-line sensor to avoid an air-in-line alarm condition. If the uninterrupted volume of air continues to grow beyond a second threshold in spite of the bolus, then an alarm may be triggered. The invention reduces false alarms.

The single-dose precision is obtained after a time-to-precision period of less than eight hours, which begins at the onset of the first plunger pushing for the cartridge, during which the plunger is being pushed in accordance with the stored delivery profile.
