    • The present invention provides a method for connecting an optical transmission/reception module and a circuit board in order to reduce electrical crosstalk effectively in single-fiber bidirectional optical transmission/reception equipment. The optical transmission/reception equipment includes an optical transmission/reception module which has at least one transmission subassembly with a built-in light-emitting device, one or a plurality of reception subassemblies each having a built-in light-receiving device, and a housing for fixing the transmission subassembly and the reception subassembly/subassemblies, and a circuit board on which an electronic device is mounted. At least one stem base part constituting a stem/stems of the reception subassembly/subassemblies and a stem base part constituting a stem of the transmission subassembly are directly connected to a ground pattern of the circuit board.

    • A metal chassis including a laser diode (LD) and a photodiode (PD) is held at a receiver ground RG, which is the potential of the anode or the cathode of the PD. Meanwhile, a receptacle for removing an optical fiber is held at a frame ground FG of a separate frame. Lead pins of the LD are insulated from the metal chassis. The receiver ground RG and the frame ground FG are insulated from each other by an insulative member. Since the receiver ground RG is insulated from the LD and the frame, a receiver is not easily affected by inner noise and outer noise. Accordingly, a bidirectional optical module having reduced influence of forward radiated noise, LD/PD crosstalk, and the outer noise is provided.

    • A three-storied structure optical communications module having a top case, a middle case and a bottom case which are piled and coupled in a vertical direction. The middle case has a silicon bench with M (channel number) lightwaveguides, a first WDM1, a second WDM2, M (channel number) laser diodes for generating transmitting signals λ1. The top case has a set of λ2 receiving photodiodes PD1s of the channel number M. The bottom case has another set of λ3 receiving photodiodes PD2s. λ2 signal beams and λ3 signal beams propagating in optical fibers go into the lightwaveguides on the middle case. The λ2 signal beams are reflected midway on the lightwaveguides by the WDM1 upward to the photodiodes PD1s on the top case and are converted into photocurrents by the photodiodes PDs. The λ3 signal beams are reflected halfway on the lightwaveguides by the WDM2 downward to the photodiodes PD2s and are converted into photocurrents by the photodiodes PD2s. The λ1 yielded by the laser diodes make their way in the lightwaveguides, go into a multichannel fiber and propagate in the multichannel fiber. The three-storied structure allows two sets of M-channel receiving signals and a set of M-channel transmitting signals to be received or transmitted. The three-storied structure enables the module to alleviate a necessary area and reduce optical, electrical interchannel crosstalk.
