摘要： A jointing holder for an optical module for single-fiber bidirectional communication comprises a unitarily structured cylindrical body that has the following portions: (a) an optical fiber-fixing portion for securely holding an optical fiber for transmitting multiwavelength light bidirectionally, (b) a semiconductor laser-fixing portion for securely holding a semiconductor laser for emitting outgoing light λ1, (c) a photodiode-fixing portion for securely holding a photodiode for receiving incoming light λ2, (d) an optical path-forming space for optically coupling the optical fiber, the semiconductor laser, and the photodiode, and (e) in the optical path-forming space, an optical filter-fixing face for securely holding an optical filter for separating multiplexed wavelengths. The jointing holder enables the optical module to reduce the number of components, to be miniaturized, and to reduce the dimensional deviation at the time of the assembly, enabling high-precision assembly. An optical module for single-fiber bidirectional communication incorporates the jointing holder.

摘要： An optical communication module includes (a) at least one light-emitting device, at least one light-receiving device, or a combination of these; (b) an optically coupling means coupled optically with the device or each device; (c) an electric-circuit part connected to the device or each device; (d) multiple layers of electroconductive media supporting the device or devices, the optically coupling means or these optically coupling means, and the electric-circuit part or parts; and (e) a connector portion formed at the end portion of each of the electroconductive media. The insertion of the next-stage circuit substrate between the connector portions enables the electrical connection between the module and the next-stage circuit substrate having a multitude of leads without requiring a large space. An insulating spacer placed between the layers of the electroconductive media secures the electrical and thermal insulation. The module has a property of high-speed response.

摘要： An optical communications module in which electrical crosstalk is reduced. The term “optical communications module” represents a surface-mounting-type optical tranceiver, transmitter, or receiver module. The optical communications module has a following structure. (a) An Si substrate carries at least one signal-transmitting section comprising an LD, at least one signal-receiving section comprising a PD, or both together with other components. (b) An insulating substrate is bonded to the back face of the Si substrate. (c) A separating groove separates the Si substrate along the or each boundary line between the sections in order to prevent an AC current flowing through the Si substrate. To attain this object, the separating groove is provided from the top surface of the Si substrate to some midpoint of the insulating substrate. This structure reduces the electrical crosstalk between the signal-transmitting section and the signal-receiving section, between the signal-transmitting sections, and between the signal-receiving sections.

Because the plane of polarization is rotated, even when backreflection light returns to a laser diode, the lasing state does not become unstable. Being placed in the inner space and fixed there, the Faraday rotator can be small and therefore does not increase the part cost notably. The assembly cost does not increase, because it is not required to tightly press-fit a member into a narrow hole.

摘要： An optical communication module, such as an optical transmitter used for optical communication incorporating a semiconductor laser (LD) and a monitoring photodiode (MPD), and an optical transceiver including a photodiode (PD), is efficiently and inexpensively provided. As means therefor, two substrates are used, that is, an expensive and high-accuracy first substrate is accommodated in an recess provided in a second substrate that is inexpensive and that needs less accuracy. An optical transmission system is mounted on the first substrate, and the MPD is mounted on the second substrate having an inclined surface provided on an opposite side of the recess in terms of the optical transmission direction. This eases production work and simultaneously allows the decreaseed use of expensive substrates.
