摘要： In an image encoder, a first quantization section which is selected when normal image quality is required performs quantization by dividing a wavelet transformation coefficient by a quantization step size and by thereafter rounding down a fraction thereof. On the other side, a second quantization section which is selected when high image quality is required performs quantization by dividing a wavelet transformation coeffient by a quantization step size, by adding 0.5 to the addition result, and by thereafter rounding down a fraction thereof. Therefore, the width of a dead zone where coefficients are quantized to a value of 0 is narrower than that in the first quantization section, and higher image quality is obtained accordingly.

摘要： In an image encoder (1), a quantizer (11) makes a quantization-step size set for each of low-frequency subbands whose resolution level belongs to a predetermined resolution level coincide with a quantization-step size set for each subband to encode an original image having the resolution level as it is. A low-pass rate controller (17) provides a rate control for the bit rate of arithmetic code D16 in all code blocks in a low-frequency subband to be less than a predetermined target bit rate. A high-pass rate controller (18) provides such a rate control that the bit rate of arithmetic code D17 in all code blocks in other subbands than the low-frequency subbands will be less than a target bit rate, that is, a bit rate resulted from subtraction of a bit rate D18 having actually occurred in the low-frequency subbands from a final target bit rate.

Each second block portion is transform processed to generate a plurality of transformed block portions, and it is determined which transformed block portion is most similar to a preselected first block portion. The second block portion corresponding to the determined transformed block portion is selected, and block position information indicating the position of the selected second block portion and a transformation parameter representing the transform processing of the selected second block portion are output. A technique for producing a decoded picture from the encoded interlaced picture comprises the steps of receiving a code including block position information indicating the position of a pre-transformed block and the aforementioned transformation parameter. Defined transformation processing is performed on a block identified by the block position information and is based on the transformation parameter. A decoded picture is constructed from the transformation processed blocks, and the decoded picture is re-arrayed on a scanning line basis and output.

摘要： An encoding/decoding apparatus is described wherein an encoding apparatus comprises a feature-image-extracting section, a three-dimensional shape model adjustment section, a brightness information detection section, a patch dividing section and a threshold processing section, and a decoding apparatus comprises a three-dimensional shape model forming section and a synthesizing section. Feature image information extracted from input signals by the extracting section is adjusted with three-dimensional shape basic model information by the adjustment section and then a brightness diffusion value for each triangle patch constituting the adjusted three-dimensional shape model is detected by the detection section. When the detected diffusion value is larger than a predetermined value, the processing section subjects the dividing section to divide the patch into three small patches, and the brightness diffusion value for each small patch is further detected by the detecting section, while the former is lower than the latter, the processing section encodes the brightness information for the patch by referring to a code book storing different brightness information. The encoded information is then transmitted to the decoding apparatus, together with the divided patch information. At the decoding apparatus, output image signals are reproduced from the received information by referring to the contents of a three-dimensional shape model database and a brightness information dynamic code book.
