    • An image reading apparatus includes: light-receiving elements arranged in a main-scanning direction to perform photoelectric conversion pixel by pixel; AD converter units that convert each piece of analog data photoelectric-converted by the light-receiving elements into parallel pieces of digital data; a storage unit that stores therein each of the digital data converted by the AD converter units; a converter unit that reads the digital data stored in the storage unit and converts the read digital data into serial data in the main-scanning direction; a readout control unit that changeably controls a readout start pixel and a readout end pixel of the serial data in the main-scanning direction; and a period change unit that changes a period in which the converter unit converts digital data into serial data in the main-scanning direction based on the readout start pixel and the readout end pixel.

    • A method of manufacturing a semiconductor device, includes increasing adherence between a susceptor as a heating element, and a semiconductor substrate disposed on the susceptor, by using an adherence increasing mechanism, or increasing heat transmitted to a semiconductor substrate, which is disposed on a susceptor as a heating element, by using a transmitted-heat increasing mechanism; and heating the semiconductor substrate to have a predetermined temperature by heating the susceptor. The adherence increasing mechanism may include the susceptor and one of a heavy-weight stone disposed on the semiconductor substrate, a cap disposed on the semiconductor substrate and engaged with the susceptor, and an adhesive layer provided between the susceptor and the semiconductor substrate. The transmitted-heat increasing mechanism may include the susceptor and small pieces which are disposed on the semiconductor substrate and have radiated-light absorption ability. The susceptor may hold a plurality of the semiconductor substrates in a stacked form.

    • An imaging means mounted on a vehicle performs imaging resulting in grayscale images having brightness values corresponding to object temperature, and objects around the vehicle are detected from said images. On the basis of said grayscale images, display images to be displayed on a display device mounted on the vehicle are generated and displayed on the display device. The display images are generated by lowering the brightness of areas not corresponding to the objects detected in the grayscale images. The display device is positioned in the vehicle width direction at no more than a prescribed distance away from an imaginary line passing through the center of rotation of the vehicle steering wheel and extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Accordingly, because display images are generated in which only the objects are spotlighted, the driver can quickly comprehend the objects present when using a display device.
