    • An apparatus generates quasi-complementary turbo codes in a communication system. The apparatus includes a turbo encoder, an interleaver for interleaving symbols output from the turbo encoder according to a given rule, and a code generator for generating the quasi-complementary turbo codes by puncturing and repeating the interleaved symbols from the interleaver. Further, an apparatus decodes quasi-complementary turbo codes in the communication system. The decoding apparatus includes a code decoder for generating code symbols according to a code rate transmitted through depuncturing sub-codes of quasi-complementary turbo codes transmitted from a transmitter and soft combining the sub-codes, a deinterleaver for deinterleaving the symbols output from the code decoder, and a turbo decoder for decoding an output of the deinterleaver.

The method and apparatus set input and output indexes of the received frame, and initial input and output addresses of the deinterleaver buffer for the received frame; input the received frame to the deinterleaver buffer according to the set input address; if deinterleaving for at least one of the sub-buffers has been completed, perform RS decoding on a deinterleaved first sub-buffer; and fill an empty region of other sub-buffers with a newly received frame, after completion of the RS decoding on the deinterleaved first sub-buffer.

    • An apparatus and a method are provided for improving reception reliability for control channels by detecting time division multiple (TDM) frames transmitted through the control channels in a TDM mobile communication system. The apparatus and method include receiving the frame through the forward control channel and performing a cyclic redundancy checking (CRC) with respect to the frame, thereby outputting a first error detection bit, measuring reception power for the frame, calculating a first path metric when decoding a channel of the frame, estimating a second path metric by using the first path metric and the reception power, and outputting a second error detection bit by comparing the second path metric with a predetermined threshold value, and creating and outputting a frame quality bit for detecting validity of the frame based on the first and second error detection bits.

    • An apparatus and method for turbo decoding using a variable window size. A control logic block receives information about a code rate of received data bits and a data block size, adjusts a window size according to the code rate information, and computes an initial delay. Delta metric blocks compute delta metrics from input data bits of the block size, wherein the delta metrics represent a transition probability for a path from a state to another state, respectively. An alpha metric block receives a delta metric in synchronization with the initial delay, and computes an alpha metric representing a forward state transition probability in each state. One or more beta metric blocks receive delta metrics according to the adjusted window size, and compute beta metrics representing a backward state transition probability in each state, respectively. A log likelihood ratio (LLR) block receives the alpha metric and the beta metrics in synchronization with the initial delay, and computes LLR values for symbols in an ending state. Code reliability is maintained by using a sliding window structure based on a window size varying with a code rate, while simultaneously reducing a decoding time due to an unnecessary initial delay.
