摘要： PURPOSE:To render a memory characteristic to a thick cell as well and to improve display quality by using a liquid crystal material of which the phase changes in order of an isotropic phase, cholesteric phase and smectic C* phase or in order of an isotropic phase and smectic C* phase from the high temp. side. CONSTITUTION:The ferrodielectric liquid crystal compsn. of which the phase changes in order of the isotropic phase, cholesteric phase and smectic C* phase or in order of the isotropic phase and smectic C* phase from the high temp. side is used for the element constituted by disposing a pair of substrates, at least one of which is transparent and on which electrodes are coated, in a manner as to face each other, holding the feeroelectric liquid crystal compsn. between such substrates provided with a gap via a spacer and providing at least a sheet of a polarizing plate thereto. The memory characteristic is thereby provided to the element at a practicable thickness (d 3mum) and high contrast (>=6) is obtd. in a guest-host mode having no uneven colors and dependency on visual angles. The characteristic with which the contrast does not change with a temp. change is thus attained in approximately the entire temp. region of the smectic C* phase.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtains the titled element having an excellent display quality such as a contrast by applying an organic high polymer film having a beta-dispersing temp. more than the curing temp. of a sealing material suitable for the sealing part of the titled element to an orientation control film. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing plates 8 are provided on the outsides of each upper and lower electrodes 2 respectively. The electrodes 3 being the means of impressing an electric field are provided on the insides of each substrates respectively. The orientation control films 4 are coated on the electrodes 3 respectively. The orientation control film 4 are the organic high polymer film having the beta-dispersing temp. more than the curing temp. of the sealing material suitable for the sealing part of the titled element. For example, the orientation control film 4 is composed of a polyimide (the beta-dispersing temp. 260 deg.C) obtd. by baking the polyamido acid varnish which is produced by condensating 3,3',4,4'-diphenyl tetracarboxylic acid anhydride and 2,5-diamino toluene.

PREPARATION:For example, an acid chloride is obtained from 4-formylbenzoic acid and thionyl chloride and the product is allowed to react with S(-)-2-methylbutanol in pyridine to give p-(2-methylbutoxycarbonyl)-benzaldehyde. The reaction of the product with p-n-tetradecyloxyaniline gives the compound shown in the formula.

摘要： NEW MATERIAL:A compound containing two or more 6-membered rings directly linked through carbon atoms which they have, respectively, wherein the carbon atoms at both the ends of the 6-membered rings are directly bonded to noncyclic terminal groups, one of the terminal groups is an alkyl group, or a group which is linked through an alkylene group to the 6-membered ring and contains no alkoxycarbonyl group, and the other is a group which contains a CO group and an alkoxy group at the end.

USE: A liquid crystal compound. Having low viscosity and low refractive index anisotropy.
PREPARATION: A compound shown by the formula I and a compound shown by the formula II are subjected to Grignard reaction to give a compound shown by the formula III, which is dehydrated, then hydrogenated to give a compound shown by the formula IV, which is acetylated, subjected to a haloform reaction, a carboxyl group is introduced, and esterified, to give a compound shown by the formula V.
