    • A transducer arrangement for active noise cancellation signals provides an acoustically permeable membrane (38) between ports (80, 82, 85) in direct communication with the noise propagating conduit (14) and the transducers delivering sound pulses to the port. A housing defines (58) at least one chamber exposed to at least one face of a transducer diaphragm (22, 24), and each chamber is connected in fluid communication with the conduit through at least one port. The chamber is partitioned by the membrane to include chamber portions (74, 76, 78) with a predetermined volumetric relationship. In a preferred embodiment where the transducer arrangement is coupled to a motor vehicle exhaust conduit, the membrane (38) is preferably a silicone impregnated polyurethane film reinforced with aromatic polyamide fibres. Such a membrane provides a waterproof, acoustically permeable partition between the port (80, 82, 85) and any adjacent transducer (28, 30) face that can withstand high temperatures. In a two transducer arrangement, two diaphragm faces are exposed to a common chamber including two membranes positioned on opposite sides of the port (85) communicating with the chamber.
