Signals, automatic-alarm; signals, road-vehicle.- A puncture indicator, operated by the deflation of the tyre, consists of a plate B fixed on the felloe and carrying a spindle C on which a striker C is pivoted, the striker being released from its inoperative position by a lever D formed on a plate D, and moved into action by a torsion spring C , attached to a head C on the spindle and to the striker. A jaw in the plate D embraces a lug B on the plate B, a second lug B passing through a forked part in the plate D. A stop C on the striker is, in the inopera- ' tive position, held against the lug B by the downward pressure of the spring. On deflation of the tyre, the lever D moved out by contact therewith, lifts the striker, which turns under the action of the spring until a stop C on the striker hits against a lug B fixed on the plate D. In a modification, the movement of the striker is limited by a pin, Fig. 6, which enters the plate fixed on the felloe, for the inoperative position, and comes against the plate D for the outward movement. When the tyre is deflated, the striker hits against a striking piece F and gives an alarm. This piece is spring-mounted on a rod F fixed on the vehicle body or on the mudguard, the piece F being arranged to swing on the rod F to allow the striker to pass.

摘要： 10,942. Gray, C. H., and Sloper, T. May 13. Tyres, pneumatic.-Relates to formers for making pneumatic tyres. Fig. 1 shows a sectional view, and Fig. 2 a cross-section of the rim. The rim A is built of sections hinged together at A , and the free ends of the latter are pinned to the detachable section A . The complete former is mounted on a spindle A'. Through the straight or curved flanges C, a number of pins or staples D are passed, upon which are wound the threads for making the tyre fabric. These pins can be moved towards the centre by their bent heads when the tyre is to be removed. The Provisional Specification also states (1) that the staples may be removed by a revolving arm, or by a flange engaging all the staples ; (2) that the staples may be replaced by radial wires operated by a ring or by springs; (3) that the threads may be wound around the pins or spring clips by a mechanical finger ; and (4) that the pins may be made to come into position separately to receive the thread.

When the telephone is on its hook b, the bell circuits may be completed by turning the switches r to the required position, and pressing the call keys f. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of an electric lock for locking the switches r in position. The conversation circuit is closed when the two receivers are taken off their hooks. Each station is provided with an electromagnet p in series with the talking battery g ; the armature q of this magnet is arranged to control a shunt by which the instruments of only the two subscribers talking are connected in line. The shunt may be arranged with the induction coil, or may operate to cut the receiver into or out of circuit when no induction coil is used.

The patch comprises an inextensible ring A formed of metal, wire, or similar material, through which radial tapes or threads C are passed and solutioned in position, the whole being then covered with rubber D and vulcanized. The patch is solutioned to the air tube F, and the valve is passed through th e hole H and is secured in position in the usual way.

The telephone stations are provided with a number of lines corresponding to the number of instruments and a common return or signalling circuit V. One line L at each station is connected to the lever C, and the other lines are brought to a multiple-point switch P, the lever of which is connected to the morse calling-key M. The battery T is arranged in circuit with the microphone and primary R of the induction coil, but also is shunted through the receiver F when the communicating circuit is complete. Any number of pairs of subscribers can be connected simultaneously, as the common return wire is cut out on completing the communicating-circuits.

Vucanizi n g , cores for; vulcanizing in flexible envelopes. - Tapered a i r chamber sections D, more particularly for use with aircraft, such as are described in Specifications 21863/13 and 25605/13, [Class 140, Waterproof &c. fabrics], and made of cords or canvas coated or permeated w i t h rubber or of material treated with oil compounds &c., are built up on a former A and, before being vulcanized or allowed to set, have an envelope U stretched tightly over them. A binding G is then secured over the envelope for the purpose of applying pressure to the article during vulcanizing or setting. The envelope C may be in the form of a truncated cone, in which case pressure is applied to the end by means of a cap E, to which a flange E may be secured for the purpose of holding the binding. The envelope, which itself may be formed upon the former from canvas having an interior surface of vulcanized rubber, may be stretched by means of hooks F carried by a disk or spider F . The Provisional Specification refers also to making rubber-goods in general and not necessarily conical.

Tyre-inflating valves.-A tyre valve of the looseplunger type is provided with a friction device engaging the bore of the stem so as to prevent accidental displacement or loss of the valve when the valve nozzle is removed. The device is operatively connected to the valve so as to allow a small free movement. In one form, a springy wire loop C, Fig. 3, is engaged in two slots in the valve spindle B', or an inverted U-loop is engaged in one slot. In another form, spring fingers G, Fig. 6, are formed with a plate G which is bent round the valve spindle; this arrangement operates in conjunction with shoulders formed on the spindle, as shown.
